Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off novel Chapter 222

Chapter 222: Chapter 222: The Mischievous Little Cub

Su Qinglan had just finished giving ginger pieces to the pregnant females and had handed the three herbs to the other pregnant female. She finally exhaled as her task was done... only to feel something unbelievably soft bump into her leg.

She looked down fast, and her heart melted on the spot. A tiny trembling ball of fur sat there like a lost dumpling. One look and she instantly squealed, ohh my where did this fur ball come from.

The cub nudged his forehead against her calf again, as if saying, Pick me up, female. I’m small, helpless, cute, and incredibly persuasive.

Of course, Su Qinglan didn’t even pretend to resist. She bent down and scooped him up like she had been waiting for this exact moment all her life.

Just then, a skinny female rabbit rushed forward with a worried and pale expression.

"I’m so sorry, female doctor! My cub is mischievous! I didn’t see him run to you. I’ll take him before he disturbs you."

But Su Qinglan shook her head quickly.

"It’s okay. He’s so cute. He’s not disturbing at all."

Then she noticed something. The cub’s eyes were not on her face but were locked on the basket she was carrying... specifically, the dried meat inside it.

She blinked once, then chuckled.

"Ahh, so that’s why. You little hungry thing... Here I thought you liked me."

She took out a small piece of dried meat and held it to his tiny mouth. The cub opened wide and swallowed it like he hadn’t eaten in seven days and seven nights. His speed was honestly scary.

Behind her, Hu Yan had been silently watching everything. The longer he watched Su Qinglan holding the cub, the softer his eyes became. She was almost glowing with maternal energy and his heart felt like it was doing embarrassing cartwheels. His gaze even slipped to her stomach for a second, and he felt warmth rise inside him.

One day... they’ll hold their own cub too...

And the fact that she loved holding other females’ cubs made him even happier. Other females hated it. But Su Qinglan? She was feeding this one like it was her own.

Hu Yan’s hand started moving on its own, reaching out slowly toward the cub.

Su Qinglan immediately caught the look on his face.

"You want to hold him?"

Hu Yan opened his mouth to deny it, but it was too late. She plopped the cub right into his arms.

The tiny rabbit cub stared at him for one whole second...

Then its big eyes grew even rounder as it realized the face in front of him had suddenly become a huge one.

Whoaa... who is this...? Mumma... I will never play again... the big scary man caught me...

A storm of emotions cracked across the cub’s little face, and it was on the verge of crying. Its ears twitched, its small mouth wrinkled—

and then it let out a loud wail, completely shocking Hu Yan.

Hu Yan immediately tried to calm it down, but the rabbit cub was hell-bent on crying.

"Whoaa... whaa... someone take him, please!"

It stretched out its tiny paws toward the beautiful female. It wasn’t his fault... instinctively, he was terrified of this enormous tiger. His small body trembled like a fluffy snowball.

Hu Yan froze. Absolutely froze.

He held the cub like it was a ticking bomb made of clouds.

Meanwhile, Hu Yan stared at the father with an intense, burning expression.

He was actually studying how the father held the cub. His eyes were so serious that even the father became embarrassed.

Hu Yan even started copying the exact posture the father used, and how he petted the cub to make him stop whining.

The father pretended he didn’t notice. He wouldn’t embarrass the big tiger, lest he had to pay with his life.

Su Qinglan saw Hu Yan copying the father’s movements and almost rolled on the floor laughing. Her mighty husband, who usually fought giant ferocious beasts without any fear, was treating holding the cub like a high level exam.

"How can he be so cute... she was right; he was her really silly tiger."

Now she couldn’t wait for her babies to arrive; just the thought of seeing how he would constantly be tangled up with the little cubs made her giggle to herself. She was already nearing one and a half months... and in just half a month more, she would finally give birth.

It seemed she would be delivering during the rainy season. The entire area would turn cold and damp, so she needed to make preparations in advance.

As she thought about this, a sudden realisation struck her: wasn’t Bai Ling going to give birth soon as well? After all, Bai Ling had become pregnant shortly after her, and since she was carrying a fox baby, the gestation period was only one and a half months.

Which meant... Bai Ling’s time was approaching too.

Ever since everyone had shifted into the tree houses and the rainy season began, she had hardly seen anyone. All the females were cooped up inside their homes, keeping warm and resting, so she hadn’t met the others for quite a while.

It seemed she should go give Bai Ling a proper check-up and perhaps check all the tribe’s females while she was at it, just to be sure no one else was secretly expecting.

She had already examined all the females of the rabbit tribe, and none of them were pregnant. That meant the mysterious "third pregnant female" mentioned by the system definitely wasn’t from the rabbit tribe.

Now, all that remained was to check her own tribe. As for the mountain, Han Jue and Rong Ye were already handling the examinations there.
