While the mountain was filled with the sounds of rain and bickering beastmen, a dark figure was struggling through the treacherous mud leagues away.
The old witch doctor, the one Mu Lihua was desperately waiting for, was finally traveling back from the Black Temple in the Beast City.
His face was twisted into a hideous scowl.
The heavy rain lashed against his wrinkled skin, but the cold water was nothing compared to the boiling rage in his heart.
He kept playing the words of the Black Priest over and over in his mind, and each time, he clenched his teeth so hard they felt like they might snap.
"Destiny has given her a second chance," the priest had whispered in that dark, incense-filled room.
"This time, her Phoenix Luck will shine brighter than the sun itself. We mortals can interfere, but we cannot change what is written in the stars."
"She is fated to be the most prosperous female in the history of the beast world. She will bring abundant wealth and high fertility, bearing children who will rule the world as kings."
"To go against her now is to seek your own death, benefactor. I advise you to forget her and run far away. Your luck is dimming. Your good days have ended."
The old witch doctor wanted to return to the temple and strangle that Black Priest. Twenty years ago, that same man had told him he could rise to ultimate power if he helped Mu Lihua snatch the luck of that little female child.
For two decades, he had lived off that stolen destiny, enjoying status and power within the Fox Tribe.
But now? His luck was deteriorating. His power was fading. And that "dead" luck was suddenly prospering once again in Su Qinglan.
"Why?" he hissed into the rain, his voice a ragged snarl. "Why could I not snatch it back? Why is that priest so afraid to meddle again?"
If the priest wouldn’t help him, he would do it himself. If it was true that Su Qinglan’s luck had increased, then killing her and sucking the essence of her soul would bring him even greater benefits.
Perhaps he wouldn’t just be a powerful witch doctor...perhaps he could become the supreme King of the entire beast world!
An evil smile appeared on his face. The rain made him squint, and the wind tried to push him back, but his greed kept him moving.
"Phoenix Luck... abundant fertility..." he muttered, his eyes gleaming with a sickly green light. "It all belongs to me. Once I reach the tribe, I will find a way to end her and take back what I stole twenty years ago."
The heavy rain had delayed his journey by days, making every step a battle against the thick, sucking mud.
He cursed the heavens, cursed the mountain, and cursed the female who was causing his downfall.
The old witch doctor was still lost in his grand delusions of becoming the King of the beast world when a sudden, chilling sound broke through the rhythm of the rain.
