The battle was reaching a fever pitch.
Su Qinglan swung her arms, sending wave after wave of thorn covered vines at the witch doctor, but he swatted them away as if they were nothing more than bothersome flies.
Her chest was heaving, and sweat dripped down her forehead.
No matter how much power she used, the old man seemed to absorb the impact.
Suddenly, a mechanical voice rang out inside her head.
"Host, stop. You cannot kill him like this," Xuyu said urgently.
Su Qinglan’s heart skipped a beat. She dodged a bolt of black energy and gritted her teeth. "What do you mean, Xuyu? I’m hitting him with everything I have!"
"This man is a high level practitioner of the Black Temple," Xuyu explained, his voice sounding faster than usual.
"The face you see in front of you is probably not even his true face. He is hiding his true power and his real form."
"He is a rotten soul bound by dark magic. To kill a monster like this, your plant abilities are not enough. You must use a weapon that carries the Ancient Beast God’s blessing."
"Only then will the strike reach his true heart. Otherwise, everything you do is useless."
Su Qinglan ducked under the witch doctor’s staff, feeling the dark energy singe her hair.
"An Ancient Beast God blessing? Where am I supposed to get something like that in the middle of a forest?" she screamed in her mind.
"Host, I can lend one to you," Xuyu replied.
"But there is a catch. I do not technically have it in my inventory. I would have to borrow it from somewhere else. And you will have to pay the price yourself later. It will drain your energy and perhaps a portion of your lifespan."
Su Qinglan was stunned. "So you mean you are going to steal it from somewhere? And I have to pay the price for your stupid action?"
"Host, look at your husband!" Xuyu shouted.
"Look at the Fox Tribe! For how long do you think you can fight him like this? Eventually, your energy will run out, and he will chew your heart just like he promised. Do you want to die here? Do you want your cubs to become pet food?"
Su Qinglan glanced back. She saw Hu Yan lying paralyzed against the broken tree, his eyes full of tears and agony because he could not protect her.
She saw the females of the tribe trembling in the circle, holding their breath. She saw the witch doctor’s disgusting tongue licking his lips as he prepared another dark spell.
"Fine!" she roared internally, her eyes flashing with a deadly light. "Give it to me! I do not care about the price! Just give me the weapon to kill this rotten man!"
"Transaction confirmed," Xuyu whispered.
"Transferring: The Dagger of Eternal Light. Warning: Ancient Beast God blessing active. Prepare for impact."
Suddenly, the witch doctor lunged. "Die, you arrogant female!" he screamed, his diamond sharp nails reaching for her throat.
But just as his hand was about to touch her skin, a blinding white light exploded from Su Qinglan’s palm.
The light was so pure and hot that the witch doctor let out a pathetic, high pitched shriek and covered his eyes.
"What is this?! This light... it burns!" he yelled, his dark energy instantly dissolving into smoke.
In Su Qinglan’s hand, a beautiful, ancient looking dagger appeared. It was not made of stone or bone, but a shimmering, translucent material that glowed with a golden heartbeat.
The air around the dagger hummed with a sacred energy that made the very ground beneath her feet turn green and sprout flowers.
The witch doctor took a step back, his face turning pale with genuine terror. He recognized that energy. It was the one thing the Black Temple feared most.
"The Beast God’s breath... No! How can a lowly female possess a divine relic?!"
Su Qinglan felt the dagger draining her strength, her vision blurring at the edges, but she gripped the hilt with both hands.
Her voice came out sounding like a chorus of spirits. "You wanted to see my heart? Come and take it, old man."
