In An Mo’s small house, the atmosphere was heavy with tension.
Han Jue stood in front of Su Mingxuan and Wang Mulan, racking his brain for every possible excuse. Cold sweat had already formed on his back. He forced a smile and spoke carefully.
"Tribe Leader, Lan Lan is truly fine. She has just fallen asleep after waking up briefly. Why don’t you return home first? I will personally notify you the moment she wakes up. You can’t keep waiting here forever."
Before Su Mingxuan could reply, Wang Mulan immediately shook her head. Her beautiful face was full of longing and worry.
"No, I will wait here. Why don’t I go and stay with her? I really want to see my daughter’s face," she said softly, her eyes misty with emotion.
Su Mingxuan gently held his mate’s hand and nodded. "Okay. Let’s go see Lan Lan."
Han Jue’s heart sank. His future suddenly looked pitch black.
He absolutely could not let the tribe leader and priestess walk into that house right now.
Hu Yan was still inside with Su Qinglan! He didn’t even know if Xuan Long had managed to stop things or if the situation was still ongoing.
’That damn snake! Did he even warn Hu Yan? How much time has passed already? It’s almost noon!’ Han Jue thought desperately.
He really wanted to rush back and beat both of them senseless.
Shi Feng, seeing the awkward situation, quickly brought out freshly cooked food and placed it on the table.
"Why don’t you eat something first?" Shi Feng said warmly. "You have been waiting anxiously for Lan Lan all this time."
Wang Mulan shook her head again, twisting her fingers nervously.
"Can’t you let us see her? Just for a moment? We really just want to take a look from afar. I promise I won’t disturb her rest."
Her voice trembled slightly. As a mother, her heart was aching with worry for her daughter.
Han Jue looked at her pained expression and felt his own heart twist painfully.
He didn’t want to stop her, but he also couldn’t allow them to walk in on that scene. He was stuck in the middle, suffering the most.
This was all Hu Yan and Xuan Long’s fault! Yet he would be the one blamed for failing to protect Su Qinglan.
He felt like a failure as a mate...both to Su Qinglan and to the promise he made to her father.
Just as Han Jue was about to speak again, Lan Shun, who had stayed silent the whole time, finally stood up. His sharp eyes narrowed slightly as if sensing something was wrong.
"We will go," he said firmly. "We only want to take one look at Qinglan."
He took Wang Mulan’s hand and started walking toward the door.
Han Jue panicked and tried everything to stop them...His mouth was running dry as he gave excuse after excuse, but the couple refused to listen.
They stepped out of An Mo’s house with determined expressions.
At that exact moment, a cheerful and familiar voice rang out loudly from not far away.
"Mother! Father!"
Everyone instantly froze in place.
Su Qinglan came running toward them at full speed, her long hair flying behind her and her face glowing with joy and energy.
Hu Yan and Xuan Long followed closely behind her, trying to keep up.
"Lan Lan!" Wang Mulan’s eyes widened. Tears instantly welled up as she opened her arms.
Su Qinglan rushed straight into her mother’s embrace, hugging her tightly.
"I’m here... I’m sorry for making you worry," she said softly, her voice full of warmth.
Han Jue stood frozen on the side, feeling as if a huge weight had been lifted from his chest. He let out a long, shaky breath.
Thank the heavens.
If they had arrived even a few minutes earlier... he didn’t even dare to imagine the consequences.
