After everything finally calmed down, Su Qinglan’s emotions slowly came back under control. She wiped the last of her tears and looked up at her four tall husbands.
All of them were trying to hide their red eyes from her. Some turned their faces away; others rubbed their eyes roughly as if something had gotten in them.
Su Qinglan felt her heart grow even more stifled. She stared at them and asked softly, "What are you crying for? It’s all in the past now."
The five men quickly avoided her gaze.
Hu Yan cleared his throat and said in a hoarse voice, "Who’s crying? We’re not crying at all."
Shi Feng turned his head to the side. "Yes, there’s sand in my eyes; that’s all."
Xuan Long forced a lazy smile, but his voice was clearly choked with emotion. "Lan Lan, you’re seeing things."
Han Jue rubbed the back of his neck, his eyes still red. "We’re fine. Really."
Su Qinglan looked at them one by one. Her heart melted completely. These strong, proud beastmen were all trying so hard to hide their tears for her sake. She felt both sweet and sour at the same time.
Wang Mulan watched the scene with gentle eyes. She leaned closer to Su Mingxuan and whispered softly, "You did very well in choosing husbands for our daughter. They are all good men."
Su Mingxuan smiled with pride, though his eyes were still a little red. "At least this is one thing I have done right," he said, his voice filled with satisfaction.
Wang Mulan felt much more at ease.
Looking at how her daughter’s husbands surrounded and protected her, the heavy worry in her heart finally lightened.
Even when she and Su Mingxuan were not around, these men would protect Qinglan with their lives. Each one had a good character and loved her daughter deeply. This was enough.
Just then, a knock sounded from outside the gate.
"Brother Shi Feng, are you here?"
Shi Feng’s eyes widened. It was his brother’s voice. He looked toward the door and said, "I’ll go check why he came."
Before he could take more than a few steps, more voices and footsteps approached. Shi Feng went outside and saw Bai Ling walking toward them with Lan Lan’s three cubs and her own two cubs following closely behind.
The old healer from the Dragon Beast City walked with them, carrying a medicine bag.
Bai Ling smiled brightly when she saw Shi Feng. "Brother Shi Feng, we couldn’t find all of you at the main house, so we came here. The healer prepared some special medicine for Sister Qinglan. You should take it..."
"I’m fine. I don’t need any medicine," Su Qinglan’s voice suddenly rang out as she walked out.
Bai Ling turned around instantly. The moment she saw Su Qinglan standing there healthy and energetic, her eyes widened in surprise and joy.
Su Qinglan smiled helplessly. She really didn’t dare explain her dual cultivation secret.
"Old healer, I really don’t know. I just fell unconscious and then woke up feeling very good. You are making it sound like some great achievement."
The old healer’s eyes widened. He pointed a shaky finger at her. "You female! You really don’t want to tell me the truth?!" he shouted with an angry expression.
"This old man has lived for so many years and has never seen such a strange case! My old heart cannot take this kind of shock!"
Su Qinglan touched her nose awkwardly. She could see the old man was truly persistent and dramatic.
The old healer suddenly changed the subject. "Fine! If you won’t talk about that, then tell me this...I heard you helped that female in the Dragon Beast City give birth to a very large polar bear cub! How did you do it? That female and cub were both saved because of you! Speak clearly!"
Su Qinglan realized he was talking about the difficult birth she had helped with. Seeing the old healer’s shining, curious eyes, she could only sigh softly.
"Why don’t you come inside and sit first, Old Healer?" she said politely. "I will explain everything that happened."
The old healer huffed loudly, still grumpy. "Finally, someone with sense! In this new generation, this old man has been standing for so long that my back is almost stiff!" he complained while walking inside.
Su Qinglan felt a bit embarrassed. She really should have invited him to sit earlier.
