Since they knew they weren’t strong enough to take on a rabid, possessive Xuan Long right now, the only logical choice left to preserve their dignity and their bones...was to flee the house entirely.
While the fox and the lion practically sprinted for the exit, only Hu Yan and Han Jue remained seated at the table.
On the surface, the two of them looked remarkably calm.
There wasn’t much of an expression on their stoic faces as they neatly rearranged the utensils.
However, the furious, burning crimson stain covering their ears and running all the way down their thick necks was a loud testimony to the truth...
Their self-control was definitely better than Rong Ye’s and Shi Feng’s, but they were hanging on by a very thin thread.
"The winter air outside is quite refreshing today," Hu Yan remarked, his voice a full octave lower than usual as he stared blankly at the wall.
Han Jue cleared his throat, his fingers slightly trembling as he adjusted his robes. "Yes. Very refreshing. They should take their time."
Outside, the heavy front door slammed shut as Rong Ye and Shi Feng plunged their faces directly into the freezing snowdrifts to cool down their boiling blood, cursing the slippery snake with every breath they had left.
To be absolutely fair, Rong Ye and Shi Feng weren’t actually angry that Xuan Long was mating with Su Qinglan.
After all, they had all chosen to become a family together long ago, accepting the shared bond.
It had become an inevitable, sacred rule among them that they wouldn’t fight or hoard her attention selfishly. They all loved her, and they all shared the duty of protecting her.
No, what made their blood boil was the fact that that arrogant, slippery noodle completely refused to allow them to join!
"That narrow-minded, shameless snake always finds a way to get right on my nerves," Rong Ye hissed, aggressively kicking a pile of snow and watching it explode into the air.
His fox tail was puffed up to twice its normal size from sheer irritation.
"He literally gave us that cold, warning glare before slamming the door, telling us to stay away! And then he goes and mates with her right in front of our faces...well, right through the wall! What does he think we are? Celibate beast servants?!"
Shi Feng stood beside him, his massive, powerful lion build towering over the fox. His thick, golden mane-like hair caught the falling flakes of snow, and his jaw was clenched tightly.
Hearing Rong Ye’s furious rant, the great lion beastman merely let out a low, deep hmph from his chest... neither agreeing with the fox’s dramatic outburst nor denying it.
The more Rong Ye thought about it, the more he completely ruled out the possibility that Xuan Long was just being thoughtless.
No, that calculative, arrogant snake was absolutely doing this entirely on purpose just to drive them crazy!
"He’s a show-off!" Rong Ye snapped, pacing back and forth in the snow like a caged animal, his cheeks still flushed a dark crimson from the echoes of Su Qinglan’s high-pitched moans.
"A petty, possessive, overbearing show-off! When it’s my turn next time, I’m going to lock the front door and throw away the key. Let’s see how that slippery noodle likes standing out here freezing his scales off!"
Shi Feng adjusted his heavy fur cloak over his broad shoulders. He glanced back toward the shaking window of the bedroom, his tail flicking behind him in the snow.
He gave another deep, grunting hum, refusing to get as worked up as the frantic fox but secretly making a mental note to remember this showoff.
Meanwhile, back inside the main hall...
The sounds coming from the master bedroom were still showing absolutely no signs of stopping.
