Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 500

Evander drove Charlotte back to the family estate. The moment she stepped out of the car, she saw Wesley walking toward her, his face etched with worry.

She paused, her hand still on the car door, and stared. "Wesley?"

Wesley's gaze shifted to the masked man in the driver's seat, and he frowned.

Charlotte walked over to him. "What are you doing back at the estate?"

"Dad might want you to stand on your own two feet, but I was still worried," Wesley said. His eyes met the man's in the car before he added, "And why are you with my sister, Mr. Evander?"

With one hand on the steering wheel, Evander replied, "You'll have to ask Old Mr. Rayburn about that."

Wesley's expression darkened; he clearly understood the implication.

"I've brought Miss Rayburn home safely, so I won't intrude any longer." Evander slowly raised the tinted window and drove away.

Wesley watched the car disappear down the drive before turning back to Charlotte. "He didn't give you any trouble, did he?"

Charlotte blinked, shaking her head. "No, Wesley. I'm fine."

Then she asked, "Do you know who he is?"

Her question had a double meaning. She was trying to figure out if Wesley suspected who he really was, or if he already knew the truth.

Wesley looked at her. Even he had to admit the resemblance was uncanny, so he couldn't imagine what she must be thinking.

After a moment, he said with a sigh of resignation, "It's not him."

Charlotte's expression tightened.

"Grandfather had him investigated. He's the adopted son of a Southeast Asian tycoon."

"But his face…"

"Lottie, it's not him." In truth, Wesley wasn't entirely sure, but he desperately wanted it to be true.
