That man…
Charlotte texted back: [My memory's terrible. We'll talk tomorrow.]
A minute later, he replied with a pouting emoji.
"Miss Rayburn, this is the private room."
The waiter's voice broke her from her thoughts. Slipping her phone away, she pushed the door open.
Inside, besides Mrs. Lowe, was a young man who looked vaguely familiar.
Taking a closer look, Charlotte's expression stiffened. It was that strange man from the welcome banquet, the one who had tried to get handsy with her.
"Miss Rayburn, please, sit anywhere. Don't be a stranger," Mrs. Lowe said with a warm smile.
The man's stare made Charlotte uncomfortable, but she couldn't very well refuse Mrs. Lowe's hospitality. She sat down. "I must say, I was surprised to hear that Mr. Lowe is interested in our project."
"The Lowe and Rayburn families go way back. You've only just returned to Eldermere City, so of course you wouldn't know. But don't worry, we'll be one big family soon enough."
Charlotte frowned, puzzled by the phrase "one big family."
"This is my son, Tobias. I believe you've met."
As Mrs. Lowe made the introduction, a cold smile touched Charlotte's lips. She glanced calmly at the man who was still staring at her unabashedly. "Yes, we have."
Normal people didn't stare so openly, but he… he clearly wasn't normal.
A sense of unease began to creep into her heart. While Mrs. Lowe chattered on, Charlotte discreetly pulled out her phone. Feigning a casual glance down, she sent her current location to a contact.
"Mom, didn't you already order? Don't let Miss Rayburn starve. Let's get the food out here," Tobias urged impatiently.

Mrs. Lowe grabbed her purse, stood up, and walked out of the room.
Charlotte slowly sipped her juice, watching her go. Taking her purse to handle business outside meant she had no intention of returning.
Her appetite vanished instantly, and she set down her glass.
Suddenly, Tobias placed a piece of meat onto her plate. "You're too thin, Miss Rayburn. You should eat more. My mother always says a woman with a healthy appetite is a blessing."
Is he insane?
Charlotte stared at the unwanted food on her plate, her stomach turning. She took a deep breath and said calmly, "Mr. Lowe, we've only met once. This is hardly appropriate."
