Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 522

Her fingers instinctively traced the side of his face. The texture was different from her memory, a subtle change that felt like a needle piercing the softest part of her heart, bringing a sharp, unexpected pang of pain.

So this was why he still wore a mask around her.

Charlotte snapped back to reality. Had she just felt a pang of pity for him?

She tried to pull her hand back, but he tightened his grip, his strength undeniable. "Disgusted already?" he murmured.

Stunned, she retorted, "Do men really care that much about their faces?"

"Why wouldn't I?" Evander took her soft hand in his, toying with her fingers. "My face is the brand that attracts you, after all."

Charlotte was left speechless. She struggled out of his embrace and returned to her seat, remaining silent for the rest of the ride.

When they arrived at Midvale Estates, Wesley was already waiting outside as she stepped out of the car.

She froze, then forced herself to walk toward him. "Wesley?"

His gaze went past her to the man in the back seat, where the window had been rolled down. "Thank you for bringing my sister home, Mr. Evander."

"My pleasure," Evander replied with a faint smile.

Wesley turned and led Charlotte into the courtyard.

Evander watched her walk away until his phone rang. He answered it without checking the caller ID.

"Mr. Evander, Emmett wishes to see you. Should I grant him a meeting?"

"Let him wait," he said, his voice cold.

Inside, Charlotte followed Wesley upstairs. He stopped abruptly on the landing and turned to face her. "I get the feeling you have a certain fondness for this Mr. Evander."

Charlotte watched the woman, her mind racing.

Lilith squeezed through the crowd, whispered something in the woman's ear, and the entire group turned to look at Charlotte.

Charlotte offered a shy nod and a smile, her eyes landing on the woman's face. She paused, surprised.

The woman walked over. "It's you. We meet again. So you're the friend from the medical research institute Lilith mentioned?"

Lilith looked astonished. "Faith, you two have met?"

"Yes, on the plane," Faith confirmed.

Charlotte smiled. "I had no idea it was you..."

"My flight is at twelve, and it's already ten-forty. I need to be at the airport by eleven-thirty," Faith said, glancing at her watch pointedly. Charlotte got the hint immediately, pulling documents from her bag. "Then I'll only take ten minutes of your time," she said with a smile.
