Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 532

Lilith's eyes crinkled into a smile. "It's my reputation on the line too, and I don't seem to mind. Why are you so bothered?"

"I mind," he said, his gaze turning cold. "Even rats have a code of conduct. You, it seems, have none."

Lilith blinked, stunned. "Are you insulting me?"

"Figure it out for yourself." Before she could process his words, he stepped on the gas and drove away.

"Hey! Judd, you bastard!" Lilith yelled at the disappearing taillights, stomping her foot in frustration. She raised her hand as if to throw something, then dropped it, nearly poking a nearby sycamore tree.

"Something about rats and codes… always using insults I don't understand. Ugh, damn him!"

She took a deep breath, but the fire in her chest wouldn't die down. He'd really just left her there. Not just in a foreign country, but anywhere—even back in Crestmont, no man had ever treated her with such blatant disregard.

But then a thought crept in.

Maybe she had gone a little too far. After all, he'd failed to win Charlotte over, and her meddling had certainly played a part in that.

As Lilith was deep in self-reflection, her phone rang. It was Charlotte.

When Charlotte found her at the address she'd sent, Lilith was waiting by the side of the road. Seeing her friend safe and sound, and not kidnapped, Charlotte breathed a silent prayer of thanks.

As soon as Lilith got in the car, she asked, "Can I borrow five hundred?"

Charlotte didn't ask any questions and simply transferred the money to her account.

The next thing she knew, Lilith had jumped out of the car and sprinted toward the convenience store. A moment later, she came running back, hopping in and shouting, "Go, go, go!"

Confused, Charlotte put the car in drive. As she pulled away, she glanced in the rearview mirror and saw the store owner chasing after them.

What on earth had she done?!

"Charlotte, whatever you do, don't stop!" Lilith urged.

Given the situation, Charlotte didn't dare to. Once they were a safe distance away, she finally asked, "What did you break in his store?"

Sean glanced at his assistant, who immediately held up his hands in surrender. "Sir, I really don't know anything about Mr. Rayburn's private life…"

"I wasn't asking you," Sean said, waving him off. "You can go."

The assistant made a hasty retreat.

Sean sighed, setting his cup down. "If he really is dating someone, he doesn't have to hide it. He's old enough. It's not like I'd disapprove."

Charlotte couldn't help but smile. "You're right, Dad."

"The online scandal has been handled," Sean continued. "You can go back to work tomorrow without any worries. With Julian looking out for you, I can rest a little easier."

"Okay."

The next day, Kate was taken into police custody. The elderly relatives who had caused a scene at the Rayburn Group were also brought to the station. The public outcry, however, continued to simmer online.

Shortly thereafter, the police department released an official statement.
