Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 534

Snapping back to reality, Charlotte nodded a farewell to the Director and left the office with Evander.

In the hallway, she hurried to catch up with him. "You're acquiring Grandma Rosemary's company? As Mr. Evander?"

Evander stopped and turned to her. "How else?"

"Does Grandma Rosemary know?"

"No."

Charlotte took a deep breath. "Evander, your grandmother is still in the hospital. Making a move like this… aren't you afraid she'll…"

"If you're so worried about her, you should go see her," Evander cut in casually, his fingers lightly brushing a strand of hair from her ear. "I'm sure she misses you."

The touch sent a tickle through her ear, and she instinctively pulled away. "I'm not her granddaughter-in-law anymore."

Evander let out a dry laugh. "And that means you can't visit?"

She was at a loss for words. It wasn't that she didn't want to go; she just didn't know how to face Rosemary.

His lips curved into a smile before his expression turned serious. "I've given the acquisition of Cloudcrest Medical Group a great deal of thought. Besides, I know Grandma would approve."

Charlotte looked at him and decided not to press the issue further.

Within a day, news of the impending acquisition of Cloudcrest Medical Group reached Jensen Howard. Although Jensen was currently managing the company, the board's authority still rested firmly in Rosemary's hands. He was, tellingly, the last to find out.

Jensen rushed from his office to the hospital, bringing a lavish gift to visit Rosemary.

Rosemary's calm smile didn't waver. "If you knew how to run a company, would you have let Ilse Sylvan Howard turn Howard Enterprises into such a disaster? You've seen the state it's in. Can you fix it?"

Jensen's jaw tightened, suppressing the impatience on his face. "You just think I'm not as good as my older brother, and certainly not as good as Evander."

"Jensen, it's not shameful to admit your own shortcomings. I have never demanded anything from you except that you be steady and grounded."

"You never intended to give me Cloudcrest, did you?" Jensen let out a sudden, self-mocking laugh, as if he had expected this all along. His expression hardened instantly.

He shot to his feet, his hands clenched into white-knuckled fists at his sides. "From the very beginning, you've only ever had eyes for my brother and his son! What am I to you? Fine, I'm not as composed as my brother or as talented as Evander, but Cloudcrest is a Howard family business! Why should it go to someone with a different last name? You'd rather give it to an outsider than to your own son, is that it?"

Looking at the son who was finally tearing away their pretense of civility, Rosemary's calm, weathered face was etched with a deep sadness. She was sad that she had failed to raise her younger son well, failed to protect his sensitive and fragile pride, and failed to tell him what she truly wanted for him.

Not all children are cut from the same cloth. She had never expected every one of her sons to be a titan of industry. It was a pity he never understood that.
