Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 629

Before long, Elliot and Loretta arrived. The group chose a clearing in a scenic, verdant area to set up camp and got to work.

Charlotte and Loretta handled the grill while Elliot, Julian, and Wesley pitched the tents, with Lilith eagerly helping out. She scurried around, handing them tent pegs and pulling on guy lines. She was most familiar with Elliot, so they chatted occasionally. She never once complained about being tired; in fact, she seemed to be thoroughly enjoying herself.

Loretta, brushing oil onto the marinated skewers, kept glancing in their direction.

Charlotte, who was tending to the charcoal, looked up and followed her gaze, then smiled. “What do you think of Elliot?”

“Huh?” The question caught Loretta off guard. “He’s… he’s great. He’s generous, outgoing, and funny. It’s just…”

“Just what?”

“He’s such a social butterfly, not like me…” Loretta trailed off, her eyes downcast.

“You have your own strengths, you know. You can’t just focus on what others have. Your best qualities are things other people might not possess, so you should never sell yourself short.”

Loretta pursed her lips, thought about it for a moment, and nodded.

Just then, Elliot walked over. He pulled a bottle of water from his bag and handed it to Charlotte. Then he produced a bottle of juice for Loretta.

Charlotte glanced at the water in her hand, then at Loretta’s drink. “Dr. Elliot, you certainly know how to play favorites.”

Loretta’s cheeks warmed slightly.

“I know Loretta likes juice, but I wasn’t sure what you two preferred,” Elliot said with a grin. “Or maybe… I could call Evander and have him bring some more? He’d probably cry if he knew we went camping without him.”

Charlotte was at a loss for words.

Lilith walked over, hands on her hips. “Who’s going to cry?”

“Your noble relative from the Capital.”

“I’ve never even seen my brother cry. Have you?”

“…”

Elliot didn’t answer, just turned to look at Charlotte.

She averted her gaze. “I’ll make it up to him when I get back.”

Julian poked his head out of a tent, drawn by the laughter. “What are they talking about over there?”

Wesley, having finished checking the tent, glanced over. “Isn’t it normal for friends to chat when they get together?”

“Looks like Miss Sterling has left the two of us out!” Julian grumbled.

He had a feeling this camping trip was something she had planned for herself all along.

Wesley, unfazed, looked away and crouched down to help Julian hammer in the last tent peg. “As long as she’s happy.”

“Wesley!”

Charlotte walked over, carrying a plate of freshly grilled beef and vegetables. “Loretta and I grilled this for you. Eat it while it’s hot, before it gets cold.”
