Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 672

Seeing Evander staring at her in silence for far too long, Charlotte waved a hand in front of his face. Suddenly, he grabbed the back of her hand. The scorching heat of his palm made her instinctively yank it back, half-hiding her body behind the door.

"What is wrong with you? Just standing there not saying a word. If you don't need anything, I'm shutting the door." Charlotte's heart was racing frantically.

He let out a low, husky laugh. "I just wanted to come see you."

"See me?" She poked her head out again. "You'll have plenty of time to look once the cooling-off period is over. No need to rush it, right?"

Evander's smile faded slightly as he fixed her with a deep, intense stare.

Charlotte pretended not to notice. "I'm going back to bed."

She shut the door, waited behind it for a moment, and then abruptly opened it again.

He hadn't left.

As if anticipating her move, a hint of amusement danced in his eyes, confirming his suspicions. "Didn't you say you were going back to bed?"

"Are you not leaving?"

"Whether I leave or not has nothing to do with you resting." Evander looked entirely unfazed. "It's not like my staying here is stopping you from sleeping."

The implication was clear: she cared about him.

Flustered, Charlotte was about to slam the door shut when he quickly planted his hand against the wood. "Charlotte."

This time, his tone was dead serious.

She looked at him in confusion.

He said, "No matter what news you see in the coming days, I hope you don't let it get to you."

His words carried a heavy underlying meaning. It felt as if he was warning her that a storm was brewing.

Charlotte lowered her eyes in thought for a moment before looking back up at him. "Don't worry."

...

Hiram went out for a department dinner that evening and called home ahead of time.
