VENUS
Andrea’s gaze snapped to me the second Aaron spoke.
Her lips curved slowly, chillingly.
“He knows doesn’t he?” she said, almost fondly, like she’d been waiting for this moment. “You played me.”
And then she started laughing.
Not a normal laugh.
It was unhinged.
It scraped across my nerves like broken glass.
Aaron didn’t react to her theatrics. He crossed the room in three measured steps, his focus entirely on me. His hand slipped beneath my arm, warm and steady as he helped me to my feet.
“Are you hurt?” he asked quietly.
I shook my head, unable to trust my voice.
He nodded once, satisfied, and only then did he turn fully toward Andrea.
The temperature in the room dropped another degree.
Andrea’s laughter tapered off into a slow clap.
“You’re not invited, Aaron Sinclair,” she said, voice cool again. “This was a private arrangement.
He turned toward her slowly, adjusting the cuff of his sleeve as if he had all the time in the world.
“Andrea,” he said lightly, “I can’t say it’s entirely nice to see you.’
Her eyes narrowed.

“Oh, it doesn’t matter,” she said with a dismissive wave. “You showing up changes nothing. To the world, you two are separated now. The papers are signed. The image is perfect. The plan moves forward exactly as it’s supposed to.”
Her gaze flicked to me, glittering with spite.
“And honestly, Venus just gave me the inconvenience of knowing you didn’t suffer the way I wanted you to.”
She smiled again.
“But that’s alright,” she added softly. “Because I still have your daughter.”
Aaron laughed.
Low and quiet.

Andrea’s head snapped toward him.
“Oh?” she said sharply. “You think this is funny?”
“You always did like grand monologues,” he replied.
Her smile sharpened.
“Oh, you thought I didn’t know about your little rescue attempt?” she said, stepping closer. “You thought I wouldn’t notice you circling the board? I’m always ten steps ahead of you, Aaron. She’s no longer there. Wherever you sent your people-they’re chasing air.”
A pulse of fear hit me, fast and brutal.
Aaron didn’t react.
He just guided me toward the chair by the table and pressed gently on my shoulder.
“Sit,” he murmured.
I obeyed automatically, my eyes flicking between them, heart pounding harder with every second.
Andrea watched the movement with open amusement.
“That’s sweet,” she said. “Still playing the protective husband even after signing the papers.”
Aaron straightened slowly.
Then he smiled.
And the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
“The thing is, Andrea,” Aaron said softly, “what you think and what’s actually happening are two very different things.”
She stilled.
“So,” he added conversationally, “who was it? Durrane? Julio?”
Andrea’s expression flickered.
Just a fraction.
Aaron’s lips curved.
“Ah,” he murmured. “it was Julio wasn’t it?.”
He chuckled quietly.
And for the first time since he walked in-
Andrea looked… confused. “He overheard you give orders to people to go retrieve Iris. Dumb mistake on your part. He overheard everything, but I knew something was wrong.” She laughed softly, like she’d regained control. “I adjusted accordingly.”

“So you looked for intel from the source you bought inside my circle,” Aaron said calmly. “Rick. My head of security.”
Her face fell.
My head jerked toward him.
Rick?
Our head of security?
The man who had pulled me out of Gerald’s mess years ago?
The name didn’t make sense.
“I could spend hours explaining how I found out Rick was your mole,” Aaron continued lightly. “How I fed him exactly what I wanted you to hear. How I let Julio and…” He tilted his head as if searching for the name. “What was it again? Ah, Durrane. The two amateurs you planted in my hotel in Paris.”
Andrea’s fingers tightened.
“She’s gone. You’ll never find her.”
“Did you receive the call yet?” Aaron asked, smiling faintly.
Her eyes snapped to him.
“How did you-”
“Did I know?” he interrupted softly. “Same way I found out you were blackmailing my wife, Andrea Marlowe.”
The name landed heavy.
“Those listening devices you planted in my houses?” he added. “Rick installed them.”
Her composure shattered.
Andrea yanked her phone from her pocket, fingers flying across the screen before she pressed it to her ear.
“Where is the girl?” she snapped.
Silence stretched.
Her expression changed as she listened.
Confusion.
Then anger.
Then something dangerously close to fear.
“What do you mean you lost-” she started, voice rising.
She cut herself off.

A beat later she ripped the phone away and hurled it across the room.
It slammed into the wall and shattered.
The room went silent.
Aaron chuckled softly.
“You got cocky,” he said.
Andrea’s chest rose and fell too fast.
“No,” she said under her breath, more to herself than to us. “No, that’s not possible.”
“You moved her too quickly,” Aaron continued calmly. “You didn’t tighten your circle. You trusted the wrong people.”
Her eyes flicked toward me, wild now.
“What did you do?” she demanded.
He didn’t answer immediately.
He just watched her unravel.
And for the first time,
Andrea Marlowe didn’t look like the one in control.
She looked like someone who had just realized the ground beneath her feet wasn’t as solid as she believed.
I sat frozen in the chair, my hands trembling in my lap.
Hope rose in my chest, fragile and terrifying.
Because something had changed.
The air felt different.
The power in the room had shifted.
Andrea took a slow step back.
Just one.
But it was enough to tell me everything.
Aaron wasn’t reacting anymore.
He was waiting.
And Andrea-Andrea was finally the one trying to catch up.
Her breathing had changed. The tight rhythm of someone recalculating, someone trying to claw back control that had already slipped through her fingers.

Aaron watched her quietly.
Patiently, like a man who had already seen the ending of a story and was simply waiting for everyone else to catch up.
Her gaze darted between us, sharp and restless. “What did you do?” she demanded again, voice thinner now.
He tilted his head slightly, almost thoughtful.
“Nothing you didn’t teach me,” he said.
Silence stretched.
Then Aaron’s lips curved into the faintest smile.
“Checkmate, Andrea,” he said softly. “Game over.”
The words landed with a finality that made my breath catch.
Andrea froze.
For half a second, she didn’t move.
And then, Aaron turned his head toward the door.
“Gentlemen,” he said calmly.
The handle twisted.
The door swung open.
Uniformed officers stepped inside.
Not one.
Not two.
A full line of them, their presence filling the room with cold authority.
Andrea’s head snapped toward them, disbelief flickering across her face before rage swallowed it whole.
“What is this?” she demanded, backing away. “You can’t just walk in here-this is unlawful!”
Two officers moved forward, hands poised but controlled.
“Ms. Marlowe,” one of them said evenly, “you are under arrest.”
She laughed-sharp and disbelieving.
“For what?” she shot back. “You don’t even know what you’re talking about.”
The officer didn’t react.
“You are being charged with kidnapping, blackmail, criminal conspiracy, unlawful surveillance, and multiple counts of coercion,” he recited.

Andrea’s eyes flashed.
“You have no proof,” she snapped. “None. This is harassment. I want my lawyer.”
Aaron stepped away from me, crossing the room toward the far corner where a small decorative fixture sat high on the wall. I’d barely noticed it before-just another detail in a room designed to look harmless.
He reached up, twisted something and pulled.
A tiny black camera slid free into his palm.
Andrea’s face fell completely.
“You like surveillance so much,” Aaron said lightly, holding it up between his fingers. “I figured you wouldn’t mind being recorded yourself.”
The officer stepped closer, taking the device carefully.
Aaron’s gaze returned to Andrea.
“Two can play at your game,” he added.
She stared at him, stunned. She looked small.
Cornered.
But the moment didn’t last.
Her mouth curved again, slowly.
“You think this is over?” she asked, voice low.
The officers reached for her wrists, snapping cold metal cuffs into place.
She didn’t resist at first.
Then suddenly she twisted, jerking away, fury burning through her composure.
“This isn’t finished!” she shouted, struggling as they steadied her.
Her gaze locked on Aaron.
“They’ll come for you,” she said, almost gleeful now. “All of you. You think I was the only one? You think this ends with me?”
Aaron didn’t move.
“Let them come,” he said quietly.
The calm in his voice made even the officers glance at him.
She laughed again.
She looked at me once more, eyes bright with something I couldn’t name.

“You still don’t understand what you’re standing in, Venus,” she said. “This was never just about your daughter.”
A chill ran through me.
The officers began guiding her toward the door.
She didn’t fight anymore.
She walked, head high, like she was leaving a stage she planned to return to later.
Right before she crossed the threshold, she glanced back at Aaron.
“Enjoy your reunion,” she said sweetly. “While it lasts.”
Then she was gone.
The door closed behind her.
