Chapter 35
VENUS
I woke up on a plane. No, seriously, I woke up on a freaking plane.
“Aaron, what the fuck?” I hissed, sitting up. My voice cracked from sleep, and my head spun like I’d been drugged. “How the hell did I even get on here?”
Last thing I remembered was him handing out donations, saying goodbye to Sabine and Connor, and us leaving the ballroom. Then… what? I definitely remember going to bed in my room at the penthouse.
But now I was wrapped in silk sheets, surrounded by mood lighting and the soft hum of altitude pressing through the walls of a private jet, I’m sure.
I scrambled out of the bed-because yes, apparently this plane had a bedroom-and stormed into the main cabin. There he was. Aaron Sinclair, in all his smug glory, sitting at a sleek table with a glass of wine in one hand, laptop open like he hadn’t just abducted me.
“You’ve got a hell of a lot of explaining to do, Mr. Sinclair. How the hell did I end up on a plane?”
“No.”
“No?” I blinked. “That’s it?”
He sipped his wine. Unbothered. “You sleep like the dead. When I tried to wake you for the flight, you wouldn’t budge. You only moved when I promised you could raid the pantry and nap the entire way. You got dressed, walked onboard, then knocked out again. Honestly, it was impressive.”
I stared. That… actually sounded terrifyingly plausible.
Still, I racked my brain, trying to remember something. Anything.
Nothing. Blank slate.
“I don’t even have a passport,” I argued, grasping at logic.
“Took care of it.”
Of course he did. “Where are we even going?”
“Rome.”
“Why?”
“We’re eloping.”
My brain short-circuited. “Eloping?! What do you mean, eloping?”
He smirked-that slow, arrogant curl of lips that made me want to slap and kiss him in equal measure. “Elope. Verb. /rlaup 7. Gerund or present participle: eloping. Definition: to run away secretly in order to get married. Example: ‘Later, he eloped with one of the housemaids.”
I let out a sharp laugh. “Ha. Ha. Funny.”
That rare glint of amusement flickered in his eyes.
“You didn’t just come up with this overnight.”
“I told you about it.”
“No, you told me about a registry. A wedding. Tomorrow. I was supposed to pick up Gianna from the airport in the morning!” Panic surged. I turned and rushed back into the room, yanked open my bag, and fished out my phone. Dead. Of course. I plugged it in, waiting impatiently for it to boot up.
The moment it came alive, it exploded with notifications.
Most of them from Gianna.
> Bitch, pick up.
>What the hell is going on?
>Why is a video of you tongue-deep in your boss’s throat going viral?!
>VENUS, I SWEAR TO GOD-

“Oh my God.” I dropped onto the bed, heart thudding. My fingers hovered over my mom’s contact. I couldn’t tell her the

truth.
I hit call.
She answered almost immediately. “Venus? Everything okay?”
“Yeah, Mom. All good. Just… calling to say I’m going on a short business trip. Last-minute. I’ll be back in a few days.”
“Oh? Where to?”
“Rome. You know… international expansion stuff.”
“Wow. That’s… fancy.”
“Yeah,” I forced a smile into my voice. “I’ll keep you posted, okay? Love you.”
“Love you too. Stay safe.”
God, please don’t let her see the tabloids.
I hung up and fired a message to Gianna:
> I swear I’ll explain everything. I’m on a flight to Rome. Please don’t kill me.
Then I went back to the cabin and slumped into the seat beside Aaron, flinging my arm across my face.
“I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
“I might.”
“We’re friends, remember? And friends don’t hate each other.”
There he goes again-giving me a taste of my own medicine.
Cocky bastard.
And God help me, I didn’t hate it.
