I was delirious. Exhausted.

My limbs wouldn’t move, my body limp against Aaron as he cared me. I barely registered his low curse, or the way his arms stiffened around me.

Then it hit me.

Oh God.

“We didn’t use protection,” I murmured, voice hoarse.

“I’m clean,” he said immediately, a clipped edge to his tone.

“Me too. And I’m on birth control.”

The tension left his body but not the silence.

He didn’t say another word as he carried me upstairs-into his room?-and cleaned me up. His hands were gentle, precise. At some point, I must’ve passed out from the exhaustion, because when I opened my eyes…

I was alone.

The

space

beside me was untouched.

Of course it was.

Did you expect him to hold you? Whisper sweet nothings?

You don’t cuddle with a contract.

His room was massive, masculine, sharp and expensive. Everything smelled like him. I’d never been in here before, and somehow it felt like trespassing even after last night.

I checked the time.

11:03 AM.

Shit.

Panic hit like a slap. I was so late.

I scrambled out of bed wearing one of his shirts. My body ached in all the right and wrong places. Between my thighs, soreness pulsed with every step.

After a quick shower back in my own room, I dressed for work, refully concealing the angry red hickeys littering my chest and neck. The worst were just below my collarbone-like marks of ownership. My fingers brushed over them and-

God. My pussy throbbed.

Get it together, Venus.

In the kitchen, I stopped for a quick snack.

A covered plate sat on the counter with a sticky note beside it. Just one word in Aaron’s clipped, angular handwriting:

Breakfast.

It was cold, but I warmed it up and had a few bites before grabbing my laptop and bag. No sign of Aaron. No text. No call.

No cuddles.

Right.

I took the elevator down, legs still slightly unsteady.

He’d once offered me access to his car collection- his SUVs, Lamborghini, BMV and other sleek machines that probably had names like “Executioner” or “Widowmaker.” and looked like they belonged to a museum and not a garage.

I’d accepted, of course.

But I’d never dare touch them.

You can take the girl out of the slums, but not the fear of scratching a billion-dollar hood out of the girl.

So I called a ride.

Back to Sinclair HQ. Back to reality.

Even if Aaron didn’t come for my head for working with Dorian Dorian might just have it for showing up this late.

The second I stepped into the building, I felt it.

Tension.

Eyes.

Whispers.

Like I’d walked in naked.

My gut twisted, but I shook it off and headed straight for Dorians office.

“You’re late.”

His voice was flat. Devoid of irritation, but somehow worse for it That quiet calm that promised sharp edges.

“I’m sorry,” I said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “I overslept.”

I didn’t offer more,

Couldn’t.

Because the truth was still clinging to my skin in the form of bite marks and muscle ache. And the truth?

Had a name. A scent. A pair of hands that knew exactly how to brak me open.

Dorian didn’t look up from the file in his hands. His fingers tapped once on the edge of the desk.

“You have forty-seven minutes to pull yourself together.”

He glanced at the clock. “The shareholders’ meeting starts at noon.”

My stomach dipped.

That hadn’t been on the calendar. Not the one I had access to, anyway.

“Aaron’s here?” I asked, careful.

Dorian’s brow arched as he finally looked up, eyes cool and unreadable.

“Yes.”

He paused.

“He’s already in the building.”

Of course he was.

I swallowed, my mouth suddenly dry.

“What’s the meeting about?” I asked, trying for casual-trying to be professional-even though my body was anything but. My skin still hummed from where he’d touched me.

Dorian held up a thick file. “Quarterly performance. Growth projections. Strategy shifts.”

Then, with a flick of his wrist, he added, like a quiet detonation:

“Rosemary’s attending today.”

Oh.

I didn’t understand Dorian-not fully. Not yet. The man I’d worked with over the past three days was very different from the sharp, smug and scheming one I’d met in the previous board meeting. It made me wonder what his angle was. What he really wanted.

“She’s the last board member, right?”

“Yes.”

I wanted to ask why he’d claimed she was sick during the last meeting, but i didn’t want to overstep with Aaron. God knows it didn’t go down well the last time.

“She asked to see you,” he added, still not looking at me.

“She asked about me from you? Like you two spoke?”

I found that hard to believe.

“She’s my brother’s mother,” he said, like it explained everything

It didn’t.

And it didn’t explain why his voice dripped with cold contempt very time either of their names came up.

I blinked. “Right,” I said, sarcastic.

“It’s complicated,” he replied coolly.

Then his eyes dipped to the side of my neck-where, despite everything, one faint hickey peeked through the concealer. His lips twitched. Not quite a frown.

“You might want to fix that, Venus.”

Heat rushed up my cheeks. I bit my lip and looked away.

Dorian turned toward the door, then paused.

“One more thing.”

His voice was softer this time. Not kind. But deliberate. Calculated. Like every word was a move in a much bigger game.

“Whatever happened last night… leave it outside the boardroom

He didn’t wait for a response but then, he didn’t leave either.

He lingered.

His gaze slid back to me, and for a split second, something flickered behind his eyes.

“This marriage… this little farce you’re both playing?”

His mouth curved, just barely.

“I can’t wait to watch it unravel.”

And with that, he was gone.

The Dorian I knew was back. Good, makes it easier to dislike hin.
