Every muscle in my body tensed as Roman strode in, his piercing blue eyes immediately locking onto Laurent’s hand near my face. The temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees.
Oh no.
I stood up fast and stepped back from Laurent. Roman’s face was perfectly blank, but I could see the fury in his eyes that I knew all too well. It made my stomach flip with a confusing mix of fear and desire.
He walked to the head of the table, towering over everyone with that masculine presence that filled every corner of the
room.
“My apologies for the delay,” Roman began, his voice smooth but edged with steel. “I was caught in an important meeting that demanded my immediate attention.”
He took his seat with an air of confidence that said he controlled the entire room and everyone in it.
Laurent smiled, completely unbothered. “I was slightly upset that our arrangement was getting off to such a bad start, but Anna here did an excellent job of calming me down.”
His eyes fixed on me. “She’s quite talented at handling such situations.”
Why would he say it like that? Anxiety spiked through me. He’s making it sound like…..
Roman’s smoldering gaze shifted to me, sending shivers through me. Then his eyes shot daggers at Laurent before returning to me, and I felt pinned under his stare like a butterfly on a board.
“She does have talent for a lot of things. Handling difficult clients happens to be one of them.” His tone was both suggestive and condescending, treating me like I was just another employee not the woman he’d kissed senseless hours ago.
“Though I should remind you that the generous offer of providing you with an office space in this building was extended as a courtesy. Let’s not forget the terms of our arrangement.”
Laurent’s smile shifted. “That was generous, and necessary for the partnership to function smoothly.”
“Necessary?” Roman’s laugh was cold. “I think you mean convenient, for you.” He leaned forward slightly. “Now that we’ve gotten the tantrums out of the way, shall we begin?”
He’s putting Laurent in his place, I realized. Reminding him who holds the power here.
Laurent said nothing after that. He just wore a frown that showed he was upset at Roman’s words but wouldn’t challenge him further.
Roman turned to Fay, head of the Global Team. “Present your campaign.”
Fay stood up fast and pulled up the presentation on the screen. We’ve developed a campaign strategy for Beaumont’s launch in the American market. The centerpiece is a fashion show during New York Fashion Week.”
Images flashed across the screen. Runway shots, mock-ups, lists of celebrities and influencers.
“The theme is French Couture Meets American Innovation. We’re positioning Beaumont as the bridge between European elegance and New York energy.”
Another slide appeared, the lingerie debut collection.

The campaign model filled the screen wearing champagne gold face that left little to the imagination. She had striking cheekbones and a sultry gaze. The bra was barely there, intricate lacework that framed rather than covered. The matching panties sat low on her hips, showing off her toned stomach and the curves of her body.
My cheeks heated just looking at the designs.
She’s stunning. I stared at the screen. The model’s caramel skin glowed under the lights. Long legs that seemed to go on forever. A beautiful face and perfect body.
Everything about her screamed sexy and confident, but also intimidating.
Roman studied the presentation before speaking. “I like it. The team has done solid work. A few tweaks here and there, but overall it’s strong.
He turned to Laurent. “What do you think?”
Laurent tilted his head. “You’re right. I do like the campaign, but something feels like it’s missing”
He paused, then turned to me. “Anna, what do you think?”
Me? My heart jumped into my throat. I was caught between two powerful men, both watching me intently. This is a test. It has to be.
But I knew who my boss was. I turned to Roman, seeking approval.
He gave a slight nod. Something in his expression softened almost imperceptibly. “Go ahead, Anna, I would love to hear your thoughts.”
I cleared my throat. “First, I want to thank the team. This is beautiful work.”
I gestured to the screen. “But I think there’s a story we’re not telling. Lingerie is intimate, It’s supposed to make a wo beautiful and confident in her own skin when no one else is watching. We need to balance aspirational with relatable.
Laurent leaned forward, interested but skeptical. “I understand what you’re saying, Anna. But Beaumont isn’t an everybo brand. It’s luxury. Every New Yorker won’t be able to afford it. Only the wealthy can. A bra costs three hundred dollars, panties two hundred. Why should we try to relate to people who will never buy our product?”
I doubled down. I felt my confidence grow. “I’m aware of that. But the world has shifted. Luxury lingerie brands that thrive today aren’t just selling to the wealthy. They’re selling a feeling, a fantasy, an aspiration. Women save for months to buy one piece. They buy it for themselves, not for anyone else. They wear it under their work clothes and feel like they have a secret. That’s what creates brand loyalty. That’s what makes them talk about you, post about you, dream about you.”
Please let me be making sense. My palms were sweating.
Laurent opened his mouth to respond, but Roman cut him off with a wave of his hand.
“I like Anna’s idea.”
My insides jumped with excitement. Roman Blackwood agrees with me.
