I bit my lip. “I don’t want to stir up trouble with Fay and the others. I don’t want them spreading even more rumors about
us.”
Roman’s eyes
darkened. “So you agree there’s an us.”
“You know what I mean.”
“Who cares what they all think?” His voice was arrogant and dismissive. “What matters is what’s between us. Everything else is irrelevant.”
“I care.” My voice came out meaner than I intended. “I want to earn their respect based on my hard work. Not because…”
My words cut off.
“Because what?” Roman’s hand moved, sliding down to my wrist. Then he pulled.
I stumbled forward. My breasts hit his chest. My hands wrapped around him for support.
My breath hitched.
I needed a moment.
His hard body against mine was overwhelming. The scent of his cologne mixed with something masculine and musky.
I felt every inch of him pressed against me. His chest, his hard thighs, and the slight hardness between them made my face burn.
“Go on,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble.
I forced myself to speak. “I don’t want people to think you approved my campaign because… because we’re sleeping together.”
Roman chuckled.
I looked up at him, confused. “Why are you laughing?”
“That’s what you’re worried about?”
“Why shouldn’t I be?” My voice rose. “I’m a woman. And you’re a man, free to roam this world and sleep with as many women as you please. But if they suspect, then I’ll be the office whore…”
“Stop.” His face went serious. “You’re not cheap, Anna. Don’t ever speak about yourself that way again.”
The way he said it made my chest ache. Made me want to take the words back.
“I’ll put an end to every gossip that would spring up,” he said firmly. “That should put your mind at ease.”
“That would only make things worse.”
“Why does the fact that people think we’re sleeping together bother you so much?” His eyes held mine. “When we haven’t done it…”
He paused, eyes intensely raking over my body. “Yet.”

“Is it because you hate the office gossip?” he continued, his voice dropping lower. “Or because you know it would happen
soon?”
“I already told you.” I tried to pull away, but his arms tightened. ll never come to your bed.”
Roman smirked before letting me go.
“You want to bet?”
My face must have given me away, the way my lips curved in a mocking smile, because his smirk widened.
“I could make a bet with you that you’ll come to me willingly.”
I burst out laughing, loud and intentional, wanting to mock him “That’s not how bets work.”
I expected him to get angry, to snap. Instead, his eyes gleamed.
“I told you.” His gaze locked on mine. “I’m always honest about what I want.”
He stepped closer, crowding my space until I could feel the heat radiating off his body.
“Here’s the bet. When, not if, you come to me willingly, you surrender control completely.”
His voice dropped, rougher now. “You submit to every term I se. No questions asked. You trust me to open your eyes to things you’ve never imagined. And it would all be for your pleasure.”
Shivers ran through me. What he was describing flooded my mind, being at his mercy, bound and helpless while he did filthy things to my body. It terrified and excited me in equal measure.
I covered it by shaking my head.
“I don’t play such games.”
Roman chuckled, the sound dark. “It’s not a game, Anna. It’s an agreement. A promise of what’s inevitable.”
His arrogance both infuriated and turned me on. I hated that he could do both at the same time.
“Let’s say I decide to go ahead with your ridiculous bet.” I crossed my arms, pushing my breasts up. His eyes tracked the movement hungrily. “What’s in it for me?”
“Name your price.”
I smiled. He thought I wanted money. But I was about to surprise him.
“I want to see parts of you that
you
don’t let
anyone
see.”
Roman’s expression shifted. Shock moved across his face, then lnerability.
For once, I’d left him speechless. I’d found a weak spot in his armor.
I pressed on, emboldened. “For instance, why you never let me touch you.”
He recovered quickly, his expression turning hungry. “You’ve touched the most important part of me.”
His hand dropped to his crotch. He adjusted himself through his pants casually, like it was nothing. But he knew exactly what he was doing. The outline of his erection was visible, straining against the fabric.

Chapter 114
My mouth went dry as my eyes lingered there a second too long
I rolled my eyes, trying to regain control. “You know what I mean
“Did you just roll your eyes at me?”
Oh hell. My internal alarm bells went off too late.
“Roman, I didn’t mean to…”

Before I could finish, his hand gripped my waist, holding tight as he spun me around in one quick motion, manhandling me like I weighed nothing.
Oh shoot
His other hand pressed between my shoulder blades, pushing me forward until my stomach hit the boardroom table. The cool wood pressed against my body through my thin dress.
His large hand came down on my back, pinning me in place. The weight of his palm burned through the fabric, branding
“Roman, what are you doing?”
“Stay still. His voice was a command, not a request.
He pressed down harder, not enough to hurt, but enough that I couldn’t move. His palm covered my entire upper back, holding me captive. The power dynamic sent a thrill through my core.
This couldn’t be happening. Heat shot through every part of my body, making my skin hypersensitive. I needed to fight him, push back, not let him know what this was doing to me.
“Mr. Blackwood, you’re acting like a brute!” I tried to push up against his hand, my palms flat on the table.
He held me down easily, his strength overwhelming. “Keep fighting. It only makes me want to break you more.”
His hand slid lower, caressing my spine through my dress. “Makes me want to fuck that defiance right out of you.”
