I turned my head and looked over my shoulder.

My heart nearly stopped.

Roman stood there, tall and towering behind me. His broad frame blocked out everything else in the room, and his blue eyes locked onto mine with a look that sent a chill straight down my spine.

What the hell is he doing here!

My mind scrambled to make sense of it. How did he find us so quickly?

This wasn’t happening.

Laurent followed my gaze, turning to see what had stolen my attention. When he spotted Roman, a slow smile spread across his face.

“Well,” he gestured toward Roman with his wine glass, not bothering to lower his voice. “Look who can’t seem to stay away.”

That only intensified Roman’s glare. His eyes cut to me first, the to Laurent, and the fury in them sent another chill down my spine.

I was done.

I’d lied to him. Told him I was out with Zoe. And here I was, on date with Laurent, looking guilty as hell.

But why should I feel guilty? I’m allowed to have a life. I’m allowed to go on a date without his permission.

The thought sparked defiance inside me, but it was quickly drowned out by the panic rising in my throat.

“Roman,” I said, my voice low and shaky. “I…”

Roman’s eyes shot daggers at me. “Anna.”

His voice was deceptively calm, the kind that preceded a storm.

He turned to Laurent, his expression cold as ice. “This is the executive, I take it.”

“Roman, I can explain,” I started, rising from my seat.

“Save it.” He waved his hand dismissively, cutting me off. “Whatever this is,” he gestured to the table, “it’s over.” He reached for my hand. “Get up.”

He tugged at my arm, not too hard, but firm enough to pull me against his chest. His other hand went to the small of my back, wrapping around me possessively.

“We’re leaving. Now.”

No. No, no, no.

Anger rose in my chest. Who did he think he was? Barging in here, interrupting my date, ordering me around like I was his property.

Laurent rose from his seat, finally finding his voice. “Woah, woal” He stepped around the table. “I don’t know how the hell you found us, but you have no right to walk in here and interrupt our dinner date.”

Roman closed the distance between them in two strides.

I’d never seen two men face off like this in real life. Laurent was tall, easily six feet, and broad-shouldered. But Roman towered over him, bulkier and more imposing. His presence filled the

space around them.

“I have every right,” Roman roared.

The outburst drew attention from nearby tables. I heard gasps and saw heads turning our way. A few diners whispered to each other, uncomfortable but curious.

A waiter near the bar froze mid-step, looking uncertain whether to intervene.

Oh God. This was a nightmare.

But Roman didn’t care. He only lowered his tone slightly, his eyes still burning into Laurent. “Anna works for me. And I decide how she spends her weekend.”

Laurent’s eyes flashed. “No, you don’t.”

He looked around the restaurant, gesturing broadly. “In the office, you can wield some sort of control over her time. But here?”

He shook his head. “You don’t have that power.”

Roman’s lips twitched into a wicked grin. “I have more power than you can imagine. Anna is on a twenty-four-hour call. It’s in her contract.”

He glanced at me, then back at Laurent. “In case you weren’t informed. And I need her attention now.”

Laurent stepped closer, undeterred. “There’s no emergency that needs her immediate attention. You’re just doing this because you’re jealous. Anna is with the right man, having a good time.”

Roman let out a low laugh that sent a shiver through me. “Jealous?” He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping. “Why would I be jealous of something that’s already mine?”

Laurent’s face hardened. “She’s not yours.”

“Isn’t she?” Roman’s gaze flicked to me, then back to Laurent. “She answers to me. Works for me. Follows my orders. Tell me, Laurent, what part of her isn’t mine?”

I’m not his. I’m not anyone’s.

But even as the thought formed in my mind, my body betrayed me. I stood there, frozen, unable to move or speak, unable to do anything but watch this disaster unfold.

“The part where she gets to live her own life,” Laurent shot back, his accent thickening. “The part where she decides who she spends her time with. The part where she doesn’t need your permission to exist outside your office.”

Roman took another step forward. Their chests were almost touching now, neither willing to back down. “And yet here I am. taking her home. What does that tell you?”

“That you’re a control freak who can’t handle seeing her happy.

That’s when Roman’s eyes fell on Laurent’s iPad.

It was still open, showing those photos of scantily dressed models in lingerie. The sheer fabric and exposed skin.

Roman’s glare deepened, his gaze cutting to Laurent, then to me His expression turned murderous.

“Happy?” Roman’s voice turned mocking. “Is that what this is? You showing her pictures of your little pet project, trying to convince her to strip down naked for you? Real charming. Laurent.”

Laurent’s face flushed. “It’s called modeling. It’s a legitimate career. Not that you’d understand anything beyond owning people.

“I don’t own people,” Roman said, his voice low and dangerous. I protect what’s mine. And Anna is mine to protect.”

“From what? A dinner date? A chance at a real future?”

“From men like you.”

The two men stared each other down, both breathing hard. The chests were almost touching, neither willing to back down. Laurent’s fists clenched at his sides. Roman’s face had gone stone cold, his entire body radiating fury.

This is insane.

I couldn’t believe this. Two powerful men ready to throw fists because of me.

My heart hammered in my chest, fear creeping up my spine.

Confusion swirled in my head. Part of me was angry at Roman for barging in and treating me like I was his property. But another part of me, a part I didn’t want to acknowledge, felt something else entirely.

Why does he care this much?

This was going to turn into a disaster. They were seconds away from causing a full scene, or worse.

“Stop,” I said, louder this time.

Both men looked at me.

“Both of you, please. Just stop.”

I turned to Laurent, my chest tight. “I’m sorry. I have to go.”

“Anna…”

“I’m sorry,” I repeated, grabbing my bag from the back of my chair. My phone was still on the table. I snatched it up, my hands trembling.

Roman grabbed my hand and started pulling me toward the exit

Laurent moved forward, his hand reaching out as if to grab Roman’s shoulder.

Roman stopped, then turned. His voice was a low growl. “Touch me, and you’ll lose the hand.”

Laurent’s hand froze mid-air.

“And the tabloids will be running stories about your plastic nose. Ruined. What’s it going to be?”

Laurent’s hand dropped, and he reluctantly stepped back.

Roman smirked wickedly. “That’s what I thought.”

Then he tugged me forward again, and we started moving.

Eyes followed us from every direction. Diners stared, shocked, some whispering to their companions.
