Chapter 190
Chapter 190
Anna’s POV
“Then look away.” I turned my back on him. “What I do with my life is none of your business anymore.”
“The hell it isn’t.”

I spun back around. “You gave up that right when you said no to me. When you made me feel like I wasn’t enough and that there was something wrong with me.”
“There’s nothing wrong with you.”
“Then why won’t you touch me?” The question tore out of me, raw and vulnerable. “Why did you use a vibrator instead of your hands? Why did you hide in the shower, touching yourself to my name instead of just…”
I trailed off, unable to finish.
My chest heaved. Tears burned behind my eyes.
His nostrils flared. “Because I’m trying to do the right thing.”
“The right thing.” I laughed, the sound bitter. “The right thing is making me feel unwanted? Making me think I’m not good enough?”
“You’re too good.” His voice was strained. “That’s the problem. You’re too innocent for what I can offer.”
“Stop.” I held up my hand. “I don’t want to hear it anymore. You knew who I was, yet you went ahead anyway. You pursued and seduced me. You taught me things I’d never experienced. You made me crave your touch. You made me addicted to you. And then you backed off.”
His jaw clenched. His eyes darkened with an emotion I couldn’t read.
“If I wasn’t a virgin,” my voice shook, “would you have taken me that day in your office?”
“Anna, it’s not that simple.”
“Yes or no, Roman?”
He closed the small distance between us and cupped my face.
“Can’t you see I’m trying to protect you? To do the honorable thing? It’s killing me, Anna. You have no idea how much I want you. More than I’ve ever wanted any woman in my life. And I’ve denied myself. For the first time in my adult life, I’m putting your needs above mine.”
My breath caught. My heart hammered against my ribs.
“When I saw you with my sister’s daughter…” His voice dropped. “Your eyes lit up. I watched you hold her, smile at her. That day, that’s all I could think about. I can’t give you that. A husband, Children. A real family. I’m too broken for that. I’ll end up hurting you.”
Tears welled in my eyes and spilled down my cheeks.
His words should have made me understand, but they only made the ache in my chest worse. I was done trying to make him see. Done trying to make him choose me.
“Thank you, Mr. Honorable.” The sarcasm dripped from my tone. “Then let me go. For good this time. So I can find this perfect man you keep talking about.”

Chapter 190
“No.”
“No?” I tried to pull away from him, but his hands held firm. “You don’t get to…”
His hand slid down my face to my neck, light strokes that made my body shiver.
“That’s the thing.” His voice dropped lower, darker. “After last night…”

“After last night, what?” I pushed at his chest. Anger and hurt and confusion all mixed together. “You can’t reject me and then say things like this.”
“How many times do I have to tell you that I didn’t reject you because I didn’t want you?”
He caught my wrists and held them against his chest. “I did it because I wanted you too much. Because I knew that if I took you as my mistress, I’d never let you go. And you deserve to be let go, Anna. You deserve to find a man who can give you everything. Marriage. Children. A normal life.”
His forehead pressed against mine. His breath was ragged.
“I meant it when I said I wanted you to find a better man than me. But right now, I’m not sure I can let you go.”
His words sent heat rushing through me. Frustration at his push and pull made my fingers curl into fists against his chest.
“You’re insane.”
“Maybe I am, and it’s all because of you.”
I couldn’t fall for his words again. I couldn’t let him pull me back in only to push me away later.
I shook my head. “I’ve heard enough. Thank you for rescuing me last night.”
I pulled my wrists free. “I need to leave.”
“Only after you’ve showered, had breakfast, and we’re done talking.”
“We are done talking.”
“No, we’re not.”
“Yes, we are.” I turned away and forced my legs to move toward the door.
His hand wrapped around mine and pulled me back. My chest collided with his.
The impact sent electricity through my body. Heat pooled low in my stomach. My breath caught, but I didn’t let him see what it did to me.
“Let me go.”
“No.”
“Roman…”
“You’re not leaving until we settle this.” His arm wrapped around my waist. He pulled me closer against him.
“There’s nothing here to settle. You made your choice, and you have to deal with the consequences. Now let me go.”
His other hand came up to cup my jaw and tilted my face toward his. “Do you really want me to let you go?”
“Yes.”

Chapter 190
His mouth moved toward mine.
I turned my head. His lips grazed my cheek instead. “Don’t.”
“Anna… look at me.”
“Let go.”
“Not until you look at me.”
I met his eyes. They were blazing with desire, frustration, and possessiveness.

“Tell me you don’t want this.” His thumb stroked along my jaw, sending tiny sparks through me. “Tell me you haven’t been thinking about me. About us. About what we did in my office.”
“I haven’t.” The lie tasted bitter on my tongue.
“Liar.” His eyes searched mine. “You confessed everything last night. You told me how you touched yourself thinking about me. How you wanted me to take you. To make you mine.”
My face burned. “Whatever Pierre put in my drink was talking, not me.”
“Bullshit.” His grip on my jaw tightened. “When you’re drugged, you reveal the truth. All those inhibitions disappear. You told me what you really want.”
“I didn’t mean…”
“You meant every word.” His forehead pressed against mine. “And you know what the worst part is? I’ve been thinking about it too. Every second since I left you in that office.”
A whimper escaped my throat before I could stop it.
“There she is,” he murmured. “The real Anna.”
“I don’t…” The protest died on my lips.
“How about now?” His voice was rough, demanding. “Do you still want to blame Pierre’s drink?”
His mouth crashed down on mine before I could answer. I twisted my face away, the word “no” barely escaping before he followed the movement. His lips captured mine again in a kiss that was demanding and insistent.
I bit his bottom lip, hard.
He groaned. The sound vibrated through my entire body. His grip on me tightened. “Anna…”
