Anna’s POV

The drive back to my apartment was quiet. Roman’s hand rested on my thigh, his fingers pressed into my skin like he owned it. I couldn’t stop looking at him.
He’d saved me tonight. Again.
“Thank you,” I murmured softly. “For everything. I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t…”
“If you thank me one more time tonight,” Roman interrupted, his fingers digging deeper into my leg, “I’m going to think you’re trying to make me blush.”
I let out a breathless laugh. “You? Blush? I’d pay good money to see that.”
“Keep talking like that, and you might just bankrupt yourself.”
The lightness didn’t last. His expression shifted as he pulled up in front of my building. His hand stayed on my thigh, gripping harder now.
“Anna.” He turned to face me. “There are going to be some rules from now on.”
My stomach dropped. “Rules?”
“You don’t speak to Laurent. You don’t go near him. You block his number, his social media, everything.”
“I’m not even sure Laurent was in on it,” I said. “He seemed as confused as I was when…”
‘I don’t care.” His voice was hard. “Block him. For your own safety.”
I swallowed, not wanting to argue. “Fine. I’ll block him.”
‘And no going out alone. No clubs. No bars.” His grip on my thigh turned bruising. “No dates with men. None.”
Heat flared in my chest. “Roman, that’s ridiculous.”
‘Is it?” His eyes burned into mine. “After what almost happened tonight?”
“That was Laurent. One person. You can’t ban me from…”
‘I can, and I will.” He leaned closer. “You want to know what I’ll do if you disobey me?”
My breath caught. “What?”
‘I’ll find you. His voice dropped to a warning. “Wherever you are. Whoever you’re with. I’ll drag you out of there myself”
My body reacted to his words. “You can’t control me like that.”
“Watch me.”
“Other men aren’t all like Laurent,” I argued. “What if it’s just lunch? Coffee?”
“It doesn’t matter. His hand moved from my thigh to my wrist, his fingers wrapping around it completely. “Men are dangerous, Anna. Every single one of them”

“They smile at you. Buy you drinks. Act like gentlemen.” His grip tightened. “And then they wait until you’re vulnerable. Until you can’t fight back, and they can do whatever the hell they want to you.”
My throat went tight.
“You thought Laurent was safe,” he continued. “A friend. Someone you could trust. And look what he did.”
“Not every man…”
“Enough of them.” His eyes were possessive now. “And I’m not willing to gamble with you. Not with your body or with your life.”
“So what?” I pulled against his grip, but he didn’t let go. “I just lock myself away? Never see anyone? Never go anywhere?”
“You can see your friends. Go out. But I need to know where you are. Who you’re with. What you’re doing. At all times.”
“That’s insane.”
“That’s non-negotiable.” His free hand came up to grip my chin. “I will track you, Anna. Your phone. Your car. Everything. And if something feels wrong, I will come for you.”
“You’re being controlling.”
“Yes.” No shame in his voice. “I am. When it comes to keeping you safe, I don’t give a damn about being reasonable.”
“But you’re a man too,” I shot back, wanting to sting him. “Should I be afraid of you? And not trust you?”
Anger flashed in his eyes. He released my chin only to cup my face with both hands.
“You’ve known me for months now,” he said, his voice rough. “You know I would never hurt or take advantage of you. Everything we do together, you consent to. Always. You know that about me.”
He was right. I did.
My body remembered every dirty, erotic act we’d done earlier.
Don’t think about that.
‘I appreciate what you did tonight,” I said, trying to keep my voice soft. “But I can’t just stop living because of one bad night.”
“This isn’t about one bad night.” His thumbs stroked my cheeks. “This is about the fact that I know what men are capable of And I can’t stand the thought of anyone getting close to you, much less hurting you…”
He paused, his eyes searching mine.
“If something had happened last night,” he continued, his voice breaking slightly. “If I hadn’t gotten there in time If he d
Maybe he had a point. Laurent had seemed safe, trustworthy. And look how wrong I’d been.
“But you did,” I whispered. “You got there in time.”
“This time. His grip on my face tightened. “But what about next time? What it I don’t know where you are? What if you re somewhere I can’t reach you?”

The vulnerability in his voice made my chest ache.
“How long?” I asked quietly. “This ban of yours?”
“Three months.”
“Three months?” I laughed softly. “You’re out of your mind.”
“I’m serious.”
“One month,” I countered. “One month, and we will talk about it again.”
“Two months.”
“One.”
His eyes searched mine. “You’re being stubborn.”
“You’re being controlling.”
“I know.” He leaned closer. “But you’re going to agree anyway.”
I studied his face. The worry etched into his features. The way his hands held me like I might disappear.
He wasn’t doing this to cage me. He was doing this because the thought of losing me terrified him.
And that changed everything.

“Fine,” I agreed softly. “One month. But you text me your location too. Where you are. Who you’re with. It goes both ways.”
Relief flooded his face. “Deal.”
‘And I text you mine. Every time I leave.”
“Every time.”
I laughed, the absurdity of it all hitting me. “Yeah, okay. Sure thing, Daddy.”
The word slipped out before I could stop it.
Roman’s breathing changed, and became heavier. His fingers dug into my face.
“Say that again,” he challenged, his voice rough.
My stomach flipped. Heat rushed through my entire body.
Where the hell did that come from?
“I didn’t..” I stammered, my face burning. “I don’t know why I said that.”
“Say it again,” he repeated, his eyes darkening.
I couldn’t. The word was stuck in my throat, too intimate, too revealing.
What is wrong with you? Why would you say that?

Before I could spiral further, Roman’s hand slid to the back of my neck, and he pulled me toward him. My chest pressed against his. His face was inches from mine.
“We didn’t finish what we started earlier,” he murmured, his breath hot against my lips. “Remember that.”
“Roman…” My voice came out breathy.
His other hand cupped my face, holding me like I was something precious, his thumb brushing my bottom lip. “You follow my rules for one month. You let me keep you safe. And then we’ll see.”
His eyes dropped to my mouth.
I stopped breathing as he leaned in closer, as if he was about to kiss me.
My eyes fluttered shut.
No. If you kiss him, you’re done. He’ll own you, body and soul.
Then I jerked back.
“I should go,” I whispered.
“Why?” His voice was rough, almost broken.
“Because…” My voice shook. “Everything’s heightened right now. After last night and what almost happened. We shouldn’t act on this.”
Roman laughed, dark and bitter. “That’s usually my line.”
I took a jab at his ego. “Well, I guess someone has to be the rational one.”
‘You want to talk about rationality?” He stared at me. After you were grinding against my hand earlier? After you begged me not to stop?”
Heat flooded my face, down my chest, then lower.
