Chapter 27: Fighging Him Off

Anna’s POV

“I…” I started to speak.

At least I expected some resistance from them. I expected them to say they wouldn’t leave without me. Instead, before I could finish a word, they were already moving.

They rushed for the door like they’d been waiting for permission.

Bianca glanced back once, her lips curving into a wicked grin. “It’s your turn to be locked up. We’ve done our sacrifice.”

Her words were cruel. I stood there, stunned, watching her walk away without a backward glance. I couldn’t believe how easily Bianca twisted everything, painting herself as the victim.

In truth, they were the ones who had borrowed money from a loan shark and gambled it away on shopping sprees and every reckless impulse that crossed their minds. And there I was, giving up everything to save them, my safety, my dignity, Roman’s money.

There wasn’t even a trace of gratitude. No thank you. No hesitation. They didn’t look back. They left me alone in that back room with a criminal and didn’t care enough to pretend otherwise.

Drago pulled out the bills and counted them like he had all the time in the world, setting each bundle aside.

I stood there with my arms wrapped around myself, trying to hold myself together. I don’t know why I thought this time would be different. This wasn’t new. This was how it had always been with them.

Even after I saved them. After I gave up everything I had and stepped straight into danger for their sake.

I was still just Anna. The one they used when convenient and discarded the moment they got what they wanted.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he looked up from the money.

“Little brat, I’ll admit, I’m surprised. It’s all here.”

He closed the duffel bag with a zip and pushed it aside on the desk.

“I expected excuses. Delays. Maybe a sob story about how you could only get half.” His smile widened. ” Instead, you turned out to be more resourceful than your entire family combined.”

Relief flooded through me, weak and shaky. “Good. Then we’re done.”

I turned toward the door, eager to get out of this hellhole, to breathe fresh air and put as much distance between myself and this nightmare as possible.

“Not so fast.”

The words stopped me cold. I paused and turned around slowly.

Drago walked around the desk and moved closer to me. Each step he took frightened me.

“You were late,” he said, like I had committed a great offense.

My heart started pounding as I wondered what his next move was. “I got you the money. That’s all that matters. That was the deal.”

“Yeah. But you made me wait.” He smiled in a sick way that made my stomach turn. “And when people make me wait, there’s always a penalty. Surely you understand that.”

Ipok a step back until my spine hit the wall. “What kind of penalty?”

He moved before I could react. His hand clamped around my arm like a vice and jerked me toward him with brutal force.

“Let go of me!”

I struggled and struck his chest with my free hand. My fist connected with solid muscle, but it barely fazed

him. He didn’t even flinch.

His fingers tangled in my hair, gripping tight at the roots. He dragged my head closer, inhaling like my scent pleased him, muttering something in a language I couldn’t understand. It left me completely disgusted by his proximity and touch.

Then he yanked me hard against his solid frame.

“You think you can just walk out of here,” he said low and cruel, his breath hot against my face, “without me getting a taste of you?”

He smelled of cigarettes and cheap liquor. The combination made bile rise in my throat.

“You’re deranged if you think I’m going to let you touch me.”

I pulled harder, panic filling my chest. “The deal was three hundred thousand in cash. I paid you in full. Now let me go.”

He laughed softly, the sound dark and amused. “That wasn’t the only payment, sweetheart. Did you really think it would be that simple?”

His other hand came up, fingers closing around my face roughly. “Such a shame no one appreciates you,” he murmured, his thumb pressing into my cheek. “You’re a beauty underneath all that fear. Prettier than your sister, if one looks closely enough.”

His thumb dragged along my jaw in a way that made my skin crawl, made me want to scrub myself raw.

Disgust and fear slammed into me at once, competing for dominance.

I didn’t think. Pure instinct took over. I bit down on his hand hard, my teeth sinking into the flesh between his thumb and forefinger.

He howled in pain and jerked his hand back. Blood-welled up from the bite marks.

“You little bitch!” he roared.

Rage crossed his face, hardening his features. His eyes went dark with violence.

Before I could move, before I could run, he grabbed me and hauled me up, throwing me over his shoulder like I weighed nothing, like I was a sack of grain instead of a person.

I screamed and fought, kicking my legs and clawing at his back, but it was useless. He was too strong, too big.

My insides were screaming louder than my mouth. Terror clawed at my throat.

It didn’t stop him.

But I didn’t stop either. I couldn’t. I wouldn’t.

I had to fight him with everything in me. There was no other choice. I knew no one was coming to save me. Not here. Not in this place. Not my family, who had already abandoned me. Not Roman, who didn’t even know where I was.

He carried me back to the desk and slammed me face-down against the wooden surface. The impact knocked the air from my lungs. Stars burst behind my eyes.

His hand grabbed the hood of my sweatshirt and yanked it down roughly, exposing my head. Then his fingers tangled in my hair again, gripping a fistful and using it to hold me down.

He forced my legs apart with his knee. The pressure was brutal and unforgiving.

He leaned down, his weight pressing on my back, his breath hot against my ear.

“Let

me see you try to escape now,” he whispered, his voice thick with sick satisfaction.

Real, paralyzing fear seized me. My body went cold, then hot, then cold again.

“Let go of me, you scoundrel!” I screamed, my voice breaking.

I jerked my head back as hard as I could and twisted my body. “Get off me!”

He shoved me harder against the desk. The edge dug into my ribs, and I felt something crack. Pain exploded

No. No no no.

This couldn’t be happening. This couldn’t be real.

A desperate prayer slipped through my lips, probably incoherent.

God, Please…don’t let this happen.
