Chapter 29: Rescuing Her From The Bastard

Roman’s POV

“YOU BASTARD!”

The roar that came out of me didn’t sound human. I crossed the room in three strides and ripped him off her, throwing him across the room with all the force I could summon. He crashed into the wall, slumping to the floor, groaning.

Anna turned around, her eyes wide with shock. Her hair was disheveled, her lip bleeding. But she was conscious and shaking.

As much as I wanted to run to her and hold her in my arms, I couldn’t. Not while that piece of shit was still breathing.

Drago pushed himself to his feet, his face twisted with rage. “Who the fuck are you, and how did you get in here?”

He lunged at me, and I met him halfway. My fist connected with his ribs, once, twice. He swung back, catching me across the jaw, but the pain only fueled my fury. I grabbed him by his expensive suit jacket and slammed him against the wall.

“You made a very big mistake,” I growled, my face inches from his. “Messing with what’s mine.”

He tried to knee me, but I shifted, taking the blow on my thigh instead. I drove my elbow into his face, feeling his nose crunch under the impact. Blood sprayed across his white shirt.

He turned to Anna, his eyes wild with confusion and rage, blood dripping from his broken nose.

“He’s your husband?” he mumbled in a strained voice.

Anna’s voice cut through the room, trembling but defiant. “My boss.”

For a moment, Drago just stared at her, his brow furrowing. “Your boss?” He let out a harsh laugh that sent blood spattering. “You brought your fucking boss to fight for you? You stupid bitch. You’re both dead. You hear me? You won’t leave here alive!”

He wrestled against my grip, surprisingly strong for someone I’d just beaten bloody. We grappled, crashing into his desk, sending papers and cash flying. He was bigger than I’d initially thought, and he knew how to fight dirty.

But I was angrier. And far more dangerous.

I got him in a headlock and dragged him down, my fist connecting with his face again and again until he went limp in my arms. I shoved him away, and he collapsed onto the floor, coughing blood.

Anna moved then, stepping forward despite her body trembling. She looked down at Drago with something cold in her eyes.

“You have your money.” Her voice was stronger now. “Stay the fuck away from my family.”

A primal need roared to life in me at her words. I moved back to where Drago was trying to push himself up and planted my foot on his neck, pressing down just enough to make him freeze.

“You heard her,” I reiterated. “If you go anywhere near Anna or her family again, you’re dead.”

“You’re bluffing,” he wheezed.

“Try me.” I stood over him, applying more pressure. “I control this city. Senators. Governors. The mayor. They an owe me favors. One phone call, and this place gets shut down. The feds will be all over you. Tax evasion. Racketeering. Money laundering. I’ll make sure they find everything.”

His face drained of color. His eyes darted, searching, wondering. He knew I wasn’t guessing. He knew I knew. Good.

Let it sink in. Let him understand exactly who he won desling with

I pressed my foot harder against his neck, restricting his airflow. “And if they don’t get you first, I will. You’ll just disappear. No trial. No appeals. Just gone. Do we understand each other?”

He struggled to breathe, his hands too weak to fight me off. “Yes! Yes, fuck… I understand!”

I leaned down, my voice dropping to a whisper only he could hear. “If I hear you’ve even thought about her, I’ll come back and finish this. And next time, there won’t be any talking.”

I removed my foot and straightened, adjusting my shirt. Then I turned to Anna.

She was still against the desk, her arms wrapped around herself. Her eyes met mine, those hazel eyes now filled with tears and shock from what had almost happened.

“Are you okay?” I crossed to her, my hands reaching for her shoulders, searching for injuries. “Did he hurt you? Are you…”

“No… no,” she whispered, but her voice shook. “You got here just in time.”

I didn’t wait for more confirmation. Without asking permission, I swept her up into my arms. She was light and delicate, like she might break if I held her too tight.

She let out a small gasp of surprise but didn’t protest.

The door burst open, and about four men rushed in, Marcel and the rest of the security team I’d called. They took in the scene quickly, Drago on the floor, blood everywhere, me holding Anna.

“Secure the building,” I ordered. “Make sure no one follows us out.”

Thomas appeared in the doorway, the two original bouncers subdued behind him, one unconscious, the other sitting against the wall holding his ribs. Thomas straightened when he saw us.

“We’re leaving,” I declared.

As we moved through the hallway back into the main club, I heard Drago’s voice behind us, calling out weakly to the rest of his men, who were just gathering the strength to stand. “Let them go! Let them fucking go!”

The music was still pounding, but the crowd seemed to part for us. The other bouncers, the bartender, the men at the tables, they all watched us pass but didn’t move. Fear had a way of spreading quickly in places like this.

I could feel Anna trembling against my chest. I held her tighter, feeling a burning need to protect her. I wanted to burn this entire place to the ground. I wanted to go back and finish what I’d started with Drago.

But more than that, I wanted to get Anna somewhere safe.

The cold night air hit us as we stepped outside. Thomas held the car door open, his expression carefully neutral as he took in Anna’s disheveled state and my bloodied knuckles.

I set Anna down gently in the back seat and slid in beside her. Thomas got behind the wheel, and we pulled away from that hellhole.

Only then did I allow myself to truly look at Anna. Her hoodie was torn at the shoulder. Her head had a slight bump forming near her temple. Bleeding lip. The bruise already forming on her wrist where Drago had grabbed her.

And the tears streaming silently down her face, her eyes unfocused, clearly still in shock.

“Anna…”

I pulled her deeper against my chest, running my hand through her hair gently, carefully avoiding the bump. ” You’re safe now. You’re safe with me.”

She looked up at me, her hazel eyes searching mine, still processing everything that had happened.

Then she whispered, “Thank you.”

Her head fell back against my chest, and her eyes shut, her breathing finally beginning to even out.

My arms closed around her, holding her close, while my mind moved ahead to one clear decision. If Drago ever went near her again, there would be consequences he wouldn’t survive.
