Chapter 88
Anna’s POV
Roman shook his head as though the idea disgusted him. “Not my style.”
“Of course not.”

“I like mine private,” he continued, his voice dropping to a darker tone. “Just for my eyes. What’s mine is mine. I don’t share.”
The possessiveness in his tone sent shivers down my spine. Made my core clench with remembered pleasure.
“Of course,” I scoffed. “Egomaniac. Everything has to be about you. Your control. Your rules.”
“Do you want people to watch you have sex?” The question came out demanding.
His eyes left the road for a moment to pin me in place. “Is that what this is about? You want Laurent to fuck you in front of a crowd?”
“What? No! Of course not.” The thought made my stomach flip, between fear and unwanted curiosity. Though I’d imagined the act happening with Roman.
“I’d probably pass out. I don’t have the confidence to expose my body like that. All those eyes, their judgment, comparing
me to…”
“What judgment?” He cut me off, his voice serious. “Your body is fucking perfect, Anna. Any man would be lucky to see it. To touch it. To be inside it.”
My breath hitched. The raw honesty in his voice, the heat in his eyes when he glanced at me, made my thighs clench together.
“You never know what you’re capable of,” he continued, his voice like dark silk. “With the right partner to teach you. To show you. To push your boundaries until you’re begging for more.”
The baritone in his voice, that dark promise underneath the words, made my nipples tighten painfully against my dress. Made me remember how he’d made me beg in that bathroom. How I’d pleaded for him not to stop.
God, what was he doing to me?
“You’re right.” I turned to look out the window, unable to meet his eyes so he couldn’t see just how much his words affected
“If you hadn’t whisked me away, I might have known if Laurent was that man. If he could open me up to…”
The car swerved violently.
I grabbed the door handle with both hands, my heart leaping into my throat as Roman cut across a lane. Tires squealed. Horns blared behind us. The car jerked as he corrected, barely missing a sedan.
“Are you trying to get us killed?!” I shouted, my voice high with adrenaline.
“Don’t say things like that to mess with me.” His voice was a grow. The sound made me wet despite my fear.
“I’m not messing with you! It’s the truth.”
I continued, intentionally poking his ego with my words.

“After everything that’s happened between us, and Laurent being persistent… he seems nice. Charming Respectful. He asks permission. He respects boundaries. Maybe I should give him a chance.”
“Laurent is a player. Roman’s voice was harsh. “Fake charm. He playing the long game, acting respectful to get into your pants. He only wants to get between your thighs, Anna. That’s all men like him care about.”
“You always say this like you’re any different.”
“I’ve told you that the dynamic of our situation is different.”
“How so?”
His hands gripped the wheel so tight I thought it might crack. “Anna, if I wanted to just have sex with you, I believe it would have happened. But I’ve held back.”
Heat flooded through me. “So you don’t want to have sex with me?”
“Come on, Anna.” He glanced at me briefly, and the heat in his eyes was clear. “You know that’s not what I’m saying.”
“Then say what you mean.” I pressed, needing to hear him say it. To hear him be honest for once. To understand what I was to him beyond this confusing mix of possession and restraint. “Do you want to have sex with me? Yes or no.”
The air in the car shifted. His chest rose and fell with deep, controlled breaths. Like he was holding himself back through sheer force of will.
“Haven’t I made that abundantly clear?” His voice was rough and strained. “Every time I touch you? Every time I kiss you? Every time I can’t stop myself from…”
“Not really,” I said softly, my own voice breathless. “You’ve been giving me mixed signals. I don’t know what to believe. One minute you’re kissing me like I’m the air you need, touching me like you can’t get enough… and the next you’re making me sign NDAS and telling me to forget what we shared. Putting a price on it like it was just another business transaction. So tell me, Roman… which is it?”
The car slowed slightly. I watched his throat work as he swallowed. The way his fingers flexed on the wheel, like he wanted to reach for me but was holding himself back.
When he spoke, his voice was softer, but no less intense. “Anna, ve never meant to make you feel like you could be bought. It’s just… I often want to compensate. In my world, I’ve learned it helps. Smooths things over and fixes problems before they become complicated.”
“Not everyone can be bought.”
“I’m learning that.” He glanced at me, and vulnerability flashed across his features. “With you.”
Despite the confusion, frustration, and fear, I felt my lips curve into a small smile. “Rich people and your obsession with buying things. What’s with that?”
“It’s easier than dealing with actual emotions,” he said, and there was almost humor in his voice. “Can’t purchase those anywhere. Believe me, I’ve tried.”
“No, you can’t.”
“I feel…” He paused, his hands flexing on the wheel. “This protectiveness towards you that I haven’t felt for anyone before. It’s irrational. I just can’t stand the thought of you being with him. Or anyone.”
My heart expanded. Tell me what you feel. Tell me I’m not alone in this.
“Why?” I asked, leaning forward slightly. “Why do you feel that way?”
