Harrison was the one who told her.

"What are you saying?" Josie asked, her mind reeling. "We knew each other back then? We were a couple?"

She was completely floored. According to Harrison, they had met while she was a student and had been together for an entire year. Then the syndicate snatched her, holding her as a test subject for a full month.

He had eventually rescued her, but the trauma had left her broken. Harrison feared she would succumb to depression or even take her own life, so he had turned to the black market for a drug that could selectively erase painful memories.

She had wiped that entire period of her life, including every trace of her time with him. Eventually, she returned home to live as the sheltered princess of the Hutton family, and her parents never suspected a thing.

Josie sat in stunned silence. It was like a plot from a trashy, dramatic soap opera. No novelist would even dare to write something this melodramatic.

"Harrison, did you make this up?" she demanded. "Is this some script you wrote to force us into a leading man and lady role?"

Otherwise, how could something so bizarre be real? She didn't have a single memory of him.

The more she thought about it, the more ridiculous it felt. She pinched her arm hard, and the sharp sting confirmed she wasn't dreaming. She glared at Harrison, her eyes filled with disbelief and a hint of anger at being toyed with.

"Well, say something! Is this actually true?! We really dated? I was a lab rat because I had a good personality? That's more far-fetched than a sci-fi movie!"
