"I understand that you want him to form a connection with the Supreme General, but I still don’t think it’s a good idea to send a new soldier like him on a mission like this, especially when we’ll be meeting some of the highest-ranking individuals from the other militaries. Surely, there are other ways to introduce the two of them."
Ironwoman shook her head, worried that the other cities would look down on them for sending a mere Sergeant to such an important assembly.
Although Ironwoman herself wasn’t particularly high-ranking within the military, her prowess and reputation far surpassed those of even some of the highest-ranking soldiers in Gaia’s Heaven, so it made sense for her to participate in the assembly.
Yuan, however, was essentially an unknown soldier outside of their city. Even worse, he was currently suspected of being a Void Specter by another city, even being the reason the assembly was happening in the first place.
Rather than making the decision on her own, Mei Feng turned to look at Yuan and asked him, "What do you think? Do you want to go? I won’t force you if you refuse."
"Just to clarify, you want me to escort the Supreme General to this assembly, where they’ll likely talk about me being a Void Specter, and try to convince them that I am actually a human?" Yuan asked for clarification.
"Indeed." Mei Feng nodded.
"What if I fail to convince them and do the opposite?" Yuan then asked.
"..."
After a moment of silence, Mei Feng responded, "If you fail to convince them that you’re human—or somehow make the situation even worse—you could end up becoming an enemy of every other city. Hell, there’s even a chance you might be exiled from this city."
"Exile, huh? That sounds fun," Yuan calmly remarked with a smile on his face.
"Anyway, I want to go to this assembly. It sounds too fun to miss," he then said.
"Then I’ll put your name on the list. Also, it won’t just be the two of you, as General Gu will also send two of his own soldiers. Of course, there’s also the Ninth Division, who answers only to the Supreme General."
After a brief pause, Mei Feng continued, "The assembly will happen next month, but since it won’t take place in any city, you won’t be able to teleport there."
"One last thing... Although it’s unlikely General Gu’s soldiers will try to do anything funny in the Supreme General’s presence, it’s not guaranteed, so stay alert," Mei Feng said, warning Yuan.
"I will keep that in mind."
"You’ll start your journey in three days, so do whatever you need until then. That’s all."
Yuan left the office shortly after, leaving Ironwoman behind.
"I don’t really have much to say to you. Just keep an eye out for him," Mei Feng said to Ironwoman after Yuan left.
The Ironwoman nodded before asking, "What did you think of the drill? About his performance? I didn’t have the luxury to pay attention during, but I’ll definitely watch the recording later."
"Hard to say. I don’t know if I should be happy or disappointed."
"Huh? Why would you be disappointed?" Ironwoman inquired, raising an eyebrow.
"Because it didn’t seem like he was giving it his all during the drill." Mei Feng sighed.
"On one hand, I’m glad he managed to become the last survivor. On the other hand, I was hoping to see him do much more."
"He probably didn’t want to attract any more attention than he already had, especially with the entire military watching."
"I know, but I really want to see him go all out—to see what he’s truly capable of."
