When Song Yan spotted that shadow, his eyes couldn’t help but light up.
He observed the shadow using his Divine Sense.
Decay, silence, and chill—that’s the feeling Netherworld creatures always give off.
However, what Song Yan had seen the most were Netherworld corpses or Netherworld Corpse Demons, which all looked about the same.
The rare unique ones were like the corpse demon he had seen before in the Void Ruins: a small body not as large and robust as the Netherworld Corpse Demons, yet sitting on a meditation mat wielding a knife, with mysterious, obscure, and terrifying corpse spots that were hard to remember all over its body.
Yet now, in this most severely compromised area of the Celestial Venerable Secret Realm, he encountered another kind of Netherworld creature!
It was a gigantic skeletal three-legged toad, its skin devoid of typical toad patterns, covered instead with dense corpse spots. It crouched in a corner of the Secret Realm, eyes entirely shut, yet a liquid reminiscent of drool dripped "drip drop" from its mouth.
The liquid was clear and pure, falling into a bowl-shaped shadow of unknown origin. Once a bowlful was reached, it would quickly spill out, disappearing into the darkness, landing somewhere along the way, exuding steaming heat, much like the savory meat soup simmered by an ordinary family at noon.
Even with just Divine Sense observation, Song Yan could sense an extremely alluring fragrance, making him feel a strong urge to rush over and drink that bowl of soup.
Alarmed, he hurriedly restrained his mind, and only then did the temptation slightly subside.
Song Yan’s pupils contracted; he understood that this was felt even as he held the "Celestial Venerable Secret Realm Key" and was observing with his Divine Sense. If he were present, he feared he wouldn’t be able to resist rushing over and drinking that bowl of soup.
’This ghostly toad’s power must be comparable to a Netherworld corpse demon, in life a formidable warrior... and it seems to be some kind of demon long extinct.’
Song Yan steadied his mind and looked towards a corner not far from the toad.
In that corner, there lay a Jade Scroll.
Anything that can end up here is surely a treasure.
Song Yan called forth the White-robed Immortal.
The Immortal extended a third hand, reaching distantly for the Jade Scroll.
Quickly, he silently grasped the Jade Scroll.
Yet even though no sound was made, the toad opened its eyes, a pair of ashen pupils fixated on the hand emerging in the void.
Time froze for a moment, and in the next instant... the hand accelerated suddenly, snatching the Jade Scroll.
The toad leapt up, as simultaneously the sound of the soup splashing echoed around, the soup’s aroma swiftly weaving into a mist, shrouding its figure.
Thud!
Thud thud!
Thud!
Thud thud!
With each leap of the toad, it was accompanied by the bizarre sound of many bowls knocking against the ground, eerie to the extreme.
These sounds raced towards the stone chamber where Song Yan was located.
