She came back carrying a glass of water in one hand and a fresh pour of red wine in the other. She’d topped hers up on the way—a tiny domestic confession that screamed she’d already decided, consciously or not, that dealing with the god-like teenager in her living room was going to require backup.
She handed him the water, then sank onto the low couch across from him before tucking her bare feet underneath her, she settled in with that effortless, liquid grace only women who live alone perfect—completely at home in her own space, completely at home in her own smoking-hot body.
The cream silk blouse shifted as she moved, the neckline dipping open another teasing fraction, giving the soft lamplight a fresh excuse to play across the warm valley between her heavy breasts.
She took a slow sip of wine and studied him over the rim of the glass, gray eyes sparkling with a mix of curiosity and amusement.
"So," she said, lips curving into a playful smile that promised an coming interview between a boyfriend and a girl’s mother, "tell me about yourself. I think that’s what I’m supposed to say, right? I’ve never actually had to interview one of my daughter’s boyfriend before. This feels very... official."
"I’ll try to make it easy on you."
"Oh no, please don’t," she replied, her tone teasing and going to a more casual banter than something so formal that would make things uncomfortable for them. "If I’m getting my very first one on the record, I want the full experience. No holding back."
She smiled again—the kind of elegant, dangerous smile that said she knew exactly how to use charm like a very sharp scalpel. "What’s your name?"
"Eros Velmior Desiderion."
She blinked. Once. Twice. Her full, kiss-swollen lips parted in genuine surprise as the name landed between them like something out of a forgotten romance novel.
"Eros... Velmior... Desiderion?" she repeated slowly, tasting every syllable like it was expensive wine. A soft, incredulous laugh escaped her. "That is the most ridiculously beautiful, unique and insane—insane in a good way—name I’ve ever heard in my life.
"It sounds like you should come with your own soundtrack and a castle in the clouds. Did your parents lose a bet with a romance novelist?" Her fantasy mind had clicked into it without conscious thought.
She shook her head, still smiling, the loose honey-blonde strand brushing against her flushed cheek. "I’m sorry, that was rude. It’s just... wow. I was expecting something normal like Tyler or Jake. Not something that sounds like it belongs to a dark prince from heaven realms who steals hearts for a living."
He gave her a small, amused smile.
She took another sip of wine, clearly trying (and failing) to hide how much the name had thrown her off balance in the best possible way. "Okay, Eros Velmior Desiderion," she continued, drawing out the name again with playful exaggeration, "what do you do? Besides riding massive white horses through quiet Los Angeles neighborhoods at night and showing up on random strangers’ porches like an unsolicited fairy tale?"
’I seduce MILFs like you for a living... I have a few in my harem, by the way. And your daughter is in training to become my obedient cute slave. How about that?’
"I go to school. And I run a tech startup. We’ve sold a few pieces of software to companies you’d probably recognize. It pays the bills."
She raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "What bills does a seventeen-year-old even have?"
"Fewer than you’d think. More than you’d expect."
"That’s a non-answer."
"It’s a teenager’s answer," he shot back with a shrug and a playful smile that worked on her very much that it had any right to.
She laughed—soft, genuine, and unexpectedly warm—the laugh of a woman who hadn’t planned on enjoying this conversation at all.
"Your parents?" she asked, still smiling, though her eyes kept flicking back to his face like she was still processing that impossibly regal name.
"Big family, but the core is small. My mom, my aunt, and my two stepsisters. My women." He caught the way her eyes widened slightly at the word and smoothly added, "My mother and my sisters and my aunt, I mean. am adopted... more or less thought I should add that. Character development."
She nodded slowly, one brow still arched. "More or less?"
"It’s a longer story than this conversation deserves."
"Is it a sad one?"
"By that logic? No. Not anymore."
She watched him for a beat over the rim of her wine glass, then tilted her head, honey-blonde strands slipping loose against her cheek. "How have I never heard about you? Ashley tells me everything. Or..." She caught herself with a small, self-deprecating laugh. "She used to. She’s been quieter lately. I figured it was just college applications stressing her out."
"Meaning?"
"Meaning I let her feel like what we had might’ve been a one-time thing. I’ve been distant. Unresponsive in ways I shouldn’t have been. I didn’t mean to—life got busier than I know how to explain—but the result was the same. She spent a week wondering if the guy she opened up to into the deepest parts of herself, actually meant any of it. That’s on me."
