Athena tilted her head and let out a sudden laugh.
"Marlon, you can't even measure up to Kerwin's little finger."
"Smack!"
Marlon slapped her again.
Both sides of Athena's face were swollen, looking quite frightening.
She lowered her eyelashes and spat, tasting the metallic tang of blood.
Marlon went to the front to drive, leaving Athena handcuffed in the car, her cheeks stinging with pain.
She still couldn't fathom why Marlon hadn't returned to the Keller family to take charge. Why had he shown up here instead?
It wasn't until evening, when she caught a news bulletin on the car radio, that it all made sense. Marlon had been back in Greenfield, silencing a few government agents poking around the Keller family. He'd even managed to transfer all of the family's liquid assets. Now, as long as he could smuggle himself out of the country, no one could touch him.
If he made it abroad, the wealth he'd moved would be enough to start anew, though he'd never return home.
Yet here he was, trailing Athena, seemingly intent on taking her with him.
Athena found it amusing. Listening to the broadcast, a smirk curled her lips.
"The great heir of the Keller family, the head of the clan, now a fugitive on the evening news—quite the downfall, huh? I bet every cop in the country is on your tail. If they don't sentence you to death, it's an injustice to the whole nation."
Marlon drove on, his eyes growing colder at her taunting words.
Her sarcasm drew no reaction from him, and soon enough, she lost interest.
The car eventually stopped at a location where a few men in black suits were waiting to exchange words with Marlon. After a brief conversation, Athena was led to a helicopter.
"Someone's on your trail, Mr. Keller. You might want to check if she's got a tracker."
Marlon hadn't considered this possibility. Who would bother planting a tracker on her?
Yet, after a quick search, they discovered a small device embedded just under the skin of Athena's arm. Even she hadn't noticed it. Perhaps it was implanted during those feverish days when Tyler had someone watch over her?
Hadn't Tyler decided to let her go? Why the tracker, then?
Confusion clouded Athena's mind. She'd never taken Tyler, the quintessential playboy, too seriously. But he'd promised to let her walk away, only to secretly plant this device, clearly intending to find her later. He was likely tied up in Greenfield, trying to consolidate the Keller family's business and couldn't leave yet.
Staring out into the night, a pang of guilt pierced her heart.
She had wronged Lindsay and Tyler.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
When will get update?...
