Right now, Hannah’s pulse was racing, her senses buzzing as if someone had struck a live wire inside her chest. Her vision swam not from dizziness, but from the sheer intensity of it. It was frightening and intoxicating all at once.
And that was barely a kiss.
Then Hannah wrenched her captured hand free with a burst of strength and claimed his mouth, kissing him hard.
Taryn stiffened in surprise, clearly taken aback, but only for a moment. A low groan escaped him as he recovered, his grip tightening as he kissed her back with the same fierce intensity.
Hannah might have been the one who started this but Taryn was determined to bring them both to ruin.
His mouth claimed hers with deliberate pressure and hunger, lips moving against hers like he intended to devour her whole. Hannah’s head swimmed, melting into the kiss right before she bit him.
Taryn might hold the reins here but she was a wild cat and would stand her ground.
He growled low in his chest, the sound vibrating straight through her as his hand slid into her hair, gripping hard and tugging her head back just enough to deepen the kiss.
Holy creator of the world.
Hannah knew she was completely and thoroughly fucked.
Had she known kissing Taryn would feel like this, she would have devoted all her energy to seducing him.
Wait—what?
A sweep of Taryn’s tongue across hers turned her thoughts to complete mush again.
Okay, maybe bargain-bin Mufasa had been annoying at first, but if he could kiss her like this for the rest of her life, then this was a win, not a loss.
After all, he wasn’t bad to look at. And that body. Goddess save her.
This was everything her romance novels had promised and more, finally brought to life. She’d just have to learn how to manage his surly temper and caustic tongue—
which, unfortunately, was doing very sexy things in her mouth right now.
Hannah clawed at him, her fingers threading into his hair and pulling hard, refusing to be the only one undone. She arched into him with a breathless sound she didn’t bother to hide. The world narrowed to heat and the brutal rhythm of their mouths colliding, over and over again, until neither of them remembered how to pull back.
Well—until the need for air became impossible to ignore and Hannah found herself pounding her hand against his chest because Taryn wouldn’t let her up. By sheer will and strength, she finally broke free, gasping as fresh air flooded her lungs. She swore bargain-bin Mufasa was trying to kiss her to death—and that would be a first.
But even then, Taryn wasn’t satisfied. His eyes darkened with lust as a low growl rumbled from his chest.
"Mine."
Hannah’s oxygen-deprived brain barely had time to register the word before he dragged his mouth along her jaw, lingering deliberately at the sensitive skin beneath her ear.
She sucked in a sharp breath, every nerve in her body flaring to life even as her instincts screamed that this was dangerous. She didn’t care. Her thoughts scattered, leaving only sensation as Taryn’s mouth closed over her sweet spot near her shoulder, a helpless moan slipping free.
What was it with this lion king that made him different from the others? How could he turn her into a horny teenager —which she technically was. Perhaps it was the experience and if she experimented with the other fae, perhaps they’d kiss her better than this. But even deep down, Hannah knew this was all Taryn.
It was almost like the moment in her romance books when the main character finally realized he had found his one true mate.
The thought slammed into Hannah’s mind so hard everything else screeched to a halt, like brakes locking on wet pavement.
Mine.
That was what he had called her earlier. A word reserved for mates—or lovers, her other mind supplied. And the way Taryn could set her on fire with a single touch, that could only mean one of two things. Either they were bonded— or he was devastatingly good with his mouth, her ever-doubting inner voice added.
Then it all rushed back to her at once.
The way Taryn chased other males away without a word.
The way his gaze lingered on her, caught somewhere between wanting to throttle her and wanting to pull her close.
The possessiveness he never bothered to hide.
No... way.
The realization settled, heavy and undeniable.
It was almost absurd that at the exact moment everything clicked, Hannah’s eyes were wide open while Taryn’s lips found hers again, savoring her. Joy bloomed in Hannah’s chest, bright and overwhelming.
This time, she kissed him back with intention, meeting him blow for blow, bite for bite.
The kiss was still burning on Hannah’s lips when the sound of approaching footsteps reached them, accompanied by voices.
"Did you really see him come this way?"
"Yes, I’m sure."
Hannah felt Taryn stiffen instantly as if a switch had been flipped. One second his body was pressed to hers, heat and desire consuming them, and the next he was pulling back as if she’d burned him.
He straightened abruptly, his breath uneven, nose flaring and eyes snapping toward the shadows beyond the hedges.
"Taryn?" Hannah whispered, confused.
The rustle suggested they were close now.
