Kaiden’s finger completely stilled inside her and then withdrew. His gaze was locked on hers now, seeing the cracks beneath the smile, the weight hidden under her moans.

But he only shook his head, hugging her tighter. "Maybe not in body... but I made a mistake. I thought what we had was enough, because to me, you’ve already been the perfect lover. I love you so much I can’t even explain it, and I was content just being with you. But in that comfort, I stopped looking deeper. I failed to notice the battles you were fighting inside, the things you wanted but didn’t say."

The hug around her tightened, his warmth enveloping her like a shield.

Nyx couldn’t answer him this time. Her lips trembled, but no words came out. Then slowly, her expression melted into a tender smile, and she let her weight collapse against him.
