Dane's POV
"Fuck…" I breathed again, my voice dropping into something low, rough, and animal.
My hands slid higher on her thighs, slowly, spreading her open for me.
Her breath hitched—sharp and beautiful.
Her fingers dug into my hair, pulling me closer, urging me without a single word.
I lifted my eyes to her face first.
I wanted to see her expression.
And gods… she was perfect.
Her cheeks were flushed, her lips swollen from my kiss, her chest rising and falling too fast, her eyes half-closed like she was drowning in the moment.
My wolf pushed forward again, so close to the surface the world felt sharper, hotter, and louder.
"MATE…" he growled.
"WORSHIP HER. SHOW HER SHE IS OURS."
I leaned forward, pressing a warm kiss to the inside of her thigh.
She gasped—soft, breathy, desperate.
Her legs trembled.
"D-Dane…" she whispered, her voice breaking.
I kissed higher.
And higher.
And higher.
Each kiss slow.
Each kiss with purpose.
Each kiss reminding her—
I wanted her.
All of her.
Every inch.
I reached the top of her thigh, my lips brushing dangerously close to her center.
Her whole body jerked when my breath touched her there—like heat shot straight through her.
A small, helpless moan slipped from her lips.
"Dane… please…"
The sound hit me so hard I had to steady myself on her hips.
Her begging—soft, timid, sweet—was destroying me.
I pressed my forehead to her stomach for a moment, breathing her in, grounding myself, trying not to lose every ounce of control I had left.
"I've found you," I whispered, kissing a line up her stomach.
"I promise to love you."
Her hand slid down my cheek, shaky but gentle.
"I trust you," she whispered. "Please stop talking and please make love to me."
Those three words…
They snapped something inside me.
I kissed her stomach again, slower, deeper, like those words deserved worship.
Then I lifted my head, my mouth hovering a breath away from her entrance—but I didn't touch yet.
I wanted her to feel the anticipation.
To feel my breath.
To feel me choosing her.
Her hips rolled—just slightly—toward my mouth, her need taking over her fear.
A ragged groan tore from my throat.
She was killing me.
"Lila…" I whispered, my voice breaking.
"You're… beautiful."
Her breath stuttered.
My hands slid up her hips… then down again… caressing her thighs.
She opened her legs more willingly this time, running out of patience.
She wanted me to see her.
She wanted me to touch her.
She wanted me.
My lips brushed her inner thigh one more time—
Then I slowly, deliberately lifted myself.
I rose from my knees, pressing my body to hers, letting her feel every inch of my desire, my hardened cock, my restraint hanging by a single thread.
Her breath came out shaky.
"Why… why did you stop?" she whispered.
I cupped her face gently.
"So you remember," I murmured.
"That even when I want you… desperately… I still protect you first."
Her lips parted.
I continued. "You are still weak… you need rest and you need your wolf."
Emotion filled her eyes, overwhelming deep emotions.
I leaned in and kissed her forehead, then her cheek, then the corner of her mouth… slow and passionate.
Her fingers curled around the back of my neck, pulling me closer as if she couldn't help herself.
Our lips brushed…
And then—
Someone banged loudly on the bedroom door.
We both froze.
A frustrated growl tore from my chest.
"Alpha Dane," a voice called urgently. "The council has arrived. They demand an immediate explanation about the divorce summons and your mate's arrival."
Lila stiffened in my arms.
I closed my eyes for one painful second.
Then I kissed her—softly this time, brushing my lips over hers.
"This isn't over," I whispered against her mouth.
"Not even close."
Her breath trembled.
I gently lowered her legs from around my waist and helped her stand properly, tucking a blanket around her body protectively.
I brushed a thumb over her cheek.
"Stay here. Rest. I'll be back."
She nodded slowly, but her eyes stayed locked on mine—soft, trusting, wanting.
"Mhm," she whispered.
"Don't take too long…"
My wolf howled.
I stepped out of the room, closing the door gently behind me, my entire body still burning from her touch.
I walked through the hallway toward the throne room, my wolf pacing and snarling because we had been interrupted.
But the moment the double doors came into view… all of that heat turned cold.
Because Catherine was standing there.
And not just her.
All the elders. Some warriors. Three council members. Two clan advisors. And Gamma Zake—standing way too close to Catherine.
The moment I stepped in, the elders bowed their heads.
"Alpha Dane," they greeted respectfully.
Catherine didn't bow.
Of course she didn't.
She folded her arms, chin raised, eyes full of fake pain and anger.
The council motioned for me to sit.
She scoffed. "Oh spare me. You think Dane is any better? He is ready to disgrace us all for some—"
"That's enough," Elder Miriam cut sharply.
Catherine growled and tried to continue, but Elder Horus lifted a hand.
"Alpha Dane," he said slowly, "what are you proposing?"
And then…
I said something no one expected.
Something that made the entire room erupt.
"I am stepping down."
The entire hall exploded in shouts.
"NO—" "ABSOLUTELY NOT—" "ALPHA, PLEASE—" "THIS IS MADNESS—"
Even the warriors looked shaken.
Catherine, however, smiled like a serpent that just tasted victory.
I continued anyway.
"If I cannot be with my mate," I said calmly, firmly, "then Catherine and her chosen man can rule."
Catherine smiled widely. Zake puffed his chest out.
The elders panicked.
"No—no—no—Alpha Dane!" "We chose YOU!" "You are our leader!" "You cannot abandon your pack!" "You cannot give the throne to a Luna who betrayed you!"
Elder Ronan slammed his hand on the table.
"WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THAT."
Catherine's smile died instantly.
"W–what?" she whispered.
Elder Miriam stood, her voice trembling but loud.
"You think WE will allow Gamma Zake—a man with no leadership training—to rule? You think WE will follow a Luna who breaks vows and dishonors the pack?"
The elders took a step toward me.
"Alpha Dane, please," Elder Horus said, his voice shaking. "We BEG you. Do not leave us. Do not step down. Your mate does NOT disqualify you. Your happiness strengthens the pack."
A warrior stepped forward.
"Alpha… we would die for you. We follow YOU."
Another elder nodded.
"You deserve a true mate. A real Luna. Not… her."
Catherine gasped loudly.
"You—you can't say that to ME!"
But no one looked at her anymore.
All eyes were on me.
All loyalty pointed to me.
All fear, all hope, all faith… belonged to me.
I exhaled slowly.
My voice softened.
"I will not lead a pack that rejects my mate."
"WE DO NOT REJECT HER," they all shouted in unison, voices echoing through the hall.
"She will be OUR Luna!" "We will accept her!" "Let us meet her!" "Let her stand with you!"
I blinked.
My chest tightened.
My wolf thumped his tail once.
"SEE?" he murmured inside me. "THEY WANT HER. THEY WANT US."
Elder Miriam stepped forward, tears in her eyes.
"Alpha Dane… please stay. This pack needs you."
Zake looked furious. Catherine looked panicked.
I slowly stood from the throne.
And the entire room fell silent.
