Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 144

What? I cock my head back so fast. "First of all, I don't talk like that."

He gives me an 'oh really?' look.

"I don't." He must've lost his mind, talking to me like this. Trying to start something with me like this.

But he's not done yet. "And then with Carson, you just handed him all the crackers. What did I get? Nothing but an eviction notice."

Did I not just try to apologize? Remind me that we're never having snack time ever again. These boys can't handle it. I don't even know what to say. I just stare at him.

He takes another step towards me, and the distance between us almost doesn't exist anymore-almost. There's still that little bit of space. That almost nonexistent void that still feels endless between his chest and my own. "But when you need a boyfriend cover up story," he whispers. "I'm the first name out of your mouth. How's that fair?" He looks down at me and I still don't break eye contact.

I can't.

Amber and silver. Angry or not? I don't know what's what with him. I don't know where his irritation ends and that look in his eyes, that look that for some reason I can't get enough of, begins.

"How's it fair that the only time I can get close to you is when we're screaming at each other?" he asks, leaning closer to me. But somehow, we're still not touching me.

I feel at a loss for words in a completely different way. "I don't want it to be that way..."

"But it is."

"It doesn't have to be," I say firmly. "If we could just talk."

He gives me a look that says it all. I guess he's right. We don't know how to talk to each other, but we could learn. That's what I'm about to say. But I fall silent when I feel his forehead press against my own. He just rests there against me in such an intimate way, like we don't have an audience. There's a difference between a hug and this.

What in the world is he thinking? I hope he's not thinking what I think he's thinking. We can't do this now. He puts his hands on my hips, tracing the outline of my body despite the clothing in his way. I hold onto his arms, trying not to blush. I can only image the look on Axel and Carson's faces.

"I said a hug, Aiden," I remind him. "Just a hug."

"That's what I'm doing," he says.

"No, you're doing... other things."

"You liked those other things last time, but whatever you want I guess."

HONK

Omg. "You see?" My face burns. This is so embarrassing.

I hold onto him with a death grip that, somewhere deep inside I know, he could break away from easily. "Aiden, wait. I..." Everything's happening so fast. Are those people back? Will Carson and him be safe? And the others?

Aiden sighs. Then he holds me for just a moment. Just a second that I don't even really register until it's over. "We'll be back. Just stay with Axel." He gives Axel a look before following the rest.

Michael pulls the window down again. "What's going on?"

I don't know what to say. I call after Carson. Onai. Ethel. Brittany. Krys.

"Don't worry," Carson says. "Just watch a movie with Axel. We'll be back before it's over." Then he's gone.

Axel puts his hand on my arm. "We have to go now, Mia."

I hold onto Axel before getting in the car. Axel immediately tells Michael to floor it.

Another note. We're reaching the homestretch guys! I'm expecting the story to "end" in the 40s maybe. Probably definitely by 50. IKR, heartbreak, but I'm going to make sure that the remaining chapters have a great balance of plot and love and family time and friends and side plots and everything will be completed, and if it's not by the projected chapters, the story will continue until it is.

This also means that soon I'm going to request oneshot requests for couples. I know Michonai/Onaichael will be one lol. I'm also thinking OnaixMia. Beyond that, start brainstorming. I think I'll do 7. That's always a nice number. And three fluff chapters for the brothers on top of that.
