Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 226

"What?" I ask.

He doesn't look at me.

I furrow my brow. "Why are you still here-"

"Brittany and Krys left. I have to stay here to watch you."

"Oh no you don't." I point at the door. "Call someone else."

"I'm not calling anyone else," he says.

"Okay. Stand in the bushes."

"I'm not standing in the bushes." He glares at me.

I glare right back. "You make your betas do it. What, you're too good for that? You think they're beneath you?"

"I think you're arguing with yourself," he says.

I roll my eyes.

He mutters something under his breath before closing the door, forcefully. "Would you just go to bed so I can leave?"

"You're welcome to leave right now. I don't need you." I sit firmly at the kitchen table.

He looks like he wants to bang his head against the wall.

I don't budge. "Lock the door on your way out."

"Fine." He walks over to the back door. I expect him to walk straight through it, literally, at the rate he's going, but he locks it instead. He takes his shoes off, one at a time. Then he keeps them in his hands as he walks over to the light switch.

In seconds, we're encased in darkness. Again.

I still refuse to move. I keep my eyes on where he was, but I can't see him. I can't hear him. It's like he disappeared. I can't be sure of where he is anymore. I wait for my eyes to adjust to the lighting, but they never do. Not enough at least.

"Aiden?" I ask into the open air.

No response.

"Aiden. This isn't funny."

Silence.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. "I don't do scary movies. Stop it, okay?" I stand up quickly, walking towards the hallway. "You're scaring the crap out of me."

"Watch out for the lego."

I jump ten feet in the air. He's directly behind me. I don't know if I should hit him or hug him. I hold onto him, biting my tongue to keep from screaming. "Why didn't you just answer me?" I whisper-scream, shaking his arm.

"I thought you wanted me out of you house?" he asks.

Now's not the time for this. He walks past me, into the hallway. I hold onto him for dear life.

"Could you get off of me?" He tries to go up the stairs, but I don't budge. He glares daggers at me. "You want us both to fall?"

"Go to sleep. Now," he says over me.

I rub my sore neck, glaring up at him. "You're not very good at carrying people, are you?"

"You're driving me crazy," he says.

Look who's talking. I'm about to tell him that, but he looks like he's gonna pop a vessel, so I decide to just go to sleep.

He sits in the corner of my bedroom, by the door, looking at nothing in particular. I crawl under the sheets and pull them close to me. When I called him earlier, I guess I thought that having him nearby, even just his voice, would make it easier to sleep. But if anything, his presence is unbearably irritating.

"Are you sure you can't just stay in the bushes?" I ask. "Or call someone else to come?"

He ignores me.

Predictable. I turn the other way. "Just so you know," I grumble to the wall. "I'm not arguing with myself."

Like clockwork, he responds, "All that muttering is what's keeping you up, Mia. I can hear you from here."

"Good," I say. "Because I'm telling you that I'm not arguing with myself. And I'm not muttering, I'm grumbling-"

"I said I can hear you," he says louder.

That's it. I throw the covers off.

He straightens his back, eyeing me suspiciously. "What are you doing?"

I lift the pillow, doing a few practice swings. Two alphas are more than enough for this pack.
