Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 247

I cross my arms, but then I wince. I opt for just sitting back against the bench. "Okay." I turn to him, ready to wrap this conversation up. "So if you don't know whether it was a good decision or not, who can tell me?"

"I'm sorry?" he asks quickly.

I give him a look.

He feigns innocence.

I sigh. He's playing dumb, but I get why. It's one thing for me to ask questions. It's another to ask him to name names. But what other choice do I have?

I pull the notepad up on my phone. "Ready when you are."

He clears his throat, staring at my phone warily. "Could you put that away?"

"I'll forget what you said," I say. "Come on. At least it's not the voice recorder."

He scratches his head. "Er..." He rolls his shoulders out. "Um..."

"Just say it," I say firmly.

"Okay, okay. Yeesh." He glares at me from the corner of his eyes. "Coach Kenet or Ms. Baines."

I shake my head. "Absolutely not. The brothers would know in a heartbeat." I hesitate. Is it too soon to say it? "What about..." I opt for a different suggestion first. "Nurse Janice?"

It's like his blood runs cold. "No."

"Why?" I raise an eyebrow.

"If you need to go to the nurse's office for medical reasons, by all means, go ahead." He gives me a firm look. "But outside of school, stay away from her."

"Okay," I nod, wide-eyed.

That seems to calm him down a bit, but I'm even more on edge. "Why?" I ask.

He doesn't answer.

I decide to just come right out and ask, "What about Mr. Reynolds? Would he work?"

Dante chokes. "Mr. Reynolds?"

I nod.

He looks at me incredulously. "The guy that tried to kill you?"

"Is that a no?" I ask.

I don't push it anymore when he gives me a look. "Anyone else?" I ask just to save face.

He shakes his head. "Unfortunately, no."

"Really?" My face falls.

He gives me a sympathetic look. "Sorry. I guess you kidnapped the wrong guard, huh?"

"No. You've been a great help." If only he knew Michael's plan. I get up to leave, hesitating for a moment. "I'm guessing I don't need to say this conversation stays between us?" I ask.

I cock my head back. "What?"

"If you're gonna ignore me and look for Mr. Reynolds anyway..."

I give him an innocent look. "What?" I fake-gasp. "Me?"

He glares. "Just tell me beforehand so I can help you not get killed."

"I don't know what you're talking about," I say.

"Sure you don't."

He ends up giving me his number in case I figure out what he's talking about. And then he leaves, waving before he turns the corner.

I wave back. The only question left is, now that Suzie's my last resort, how do I get her alone?

"My suggestion is not to wear it," Michael says.

I look down at the grey hoodie in my hands. "Seriously?"

"Seriously," Michael says.

"But why?" I wore Carson's jacket. And Aiden left this for me days ago. I don't see why not.

"Because," Michael says. "Next you'll have to wear Axel's hoodie. Then Carson'll say, 'Well you didn't wear mine to school,' so you'll have to wear his again. Then the other two'll be like, 'Well you wore his twice.'" He gives me a flat look. "It'll never, and I mean never, end. You'll have to tear their jackets apart and stitch them together as one super jacket that-"
