Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 298

Fei grabs at Shen's jacket as Shen lurches back from Dr. Janice's hands. "Okay, okay."

"'Kay, 'kay," Fei mimics, pushing Dr. Janice away.

"You just terrorize everyone," Onai's father mutters.

Dr. Janice glares.

Shen looks at the brothers, firmly. "I'll do it this time. I'll tell you the truth."

Onai groans, rolling his head back. "Oh here we go again."

"Give her a chance," Ethel says.

"I'm sorry, Ethel." Onai pauses, completely unremorsefully. "But your imprint's a liar."

"Don't talk about her like that," Ethel says.

Shen nods. "Yeah, why don't you just shut up?"

Ethel whips his head towards her. "Don't talk to him like that."

This is feeling like Jerry.

"Okay, listen. I have a confession." Shen holds Fei closer, gesturing towards the child. "I didn't lie, I just didn't tell the whole truth. Fei is my cousin." She turns to me, giving an apologetic look. "She's half Dawn... and half Bloodmoon."

Aiden gives an 'I knew it all along' look, even if he didn't have a clue.

"Is that all?" I ask. I won't believe her answer either way.

She pauses. "Well..."

Axel holds his head, sighing, "Not the well again."

"It's not the worst thing in the world." She takes her time saying the sentence, like she doesn't want to get to the next. "It's just..."

"I can't take anymore." Ethel holds his heart.

This poor guy.

"Calm down," Aiden says. "No matter what, it's your fault, so don't worry."

Surprisingly, that doesn't calm Ethel down.

Shen just comes right out and says it, "Both of her parents have passed, but I think her mindlink is still connected."

"To Dawn?" Aiden asks.

She shakes her head.

"To Bloodmoon?" Axel almost falls out of his chair.

She shakes her head. "To both."

"... Can we take her to the border now?" Aiden asks.

Axel nods. Carson does too.

Now that Shen doesn't have to hide Fei's Bloodmoon scent, she lets the girl run around. Fei dashes between people she knows. Shen. Onai. Me. Shen. Onai. Me, in an endless triangle. She especially loves Onai.

"If this ever ends." She gestures towards the interrogation. "We're gonna have a talk."

"A talk?"

Shen nods.

Ethel pales. "About what?"

She looks away.

I try not to laugh. If Shen somehow manages to stay in this pack, I'll explain to her that it's just the guys who are aggravating. The girls are better company-after you get used to them.

The "investigation" has stopped, because we're waiting for Fei to fall asleep. Shen needs to tell us what happened to Fei's parents, and nobody argued when she said that she didn't want Fei to hear. Dr. Janice offered to take her to the back room, but Shen didn't want that. I offered, and she seemed open to the idea, but nobody wanted me alone around a Bloodmoon baby.

We wait and wait, between the awkward looks the adults exchange and the general foreboding atmosphere of the room. Fei was sleeping before. It'd be nice if she tried to do it again.

I check my phone for the time.

The time isn't what I notice. The notifications are. 17 new messages and 5 missed calls glare at me. I see my life flash before my eyes. Michael's gonna kill me, if Mom doesn't get to me first.

"What's wrong?" Axel and Carson ask at the same time.

I shake my head, quickly dialing Michael's number. I'm ready to get the lecture of a lifetime. Instead, I get his answering machine.

"Knock knock..." He pauses. "Mia, say, who's there, already."

"Leave me alone," my recorded voice says at a distance.

He grumbles, "Just do it."
