Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 46

I cover my mouth. Dear lord. Freakish werewolf behavior. He probably ran here in wolf form. I approach my father slowly, with every intention to close the door and announce our impending doom.

A hand reaches out and yanks Carson back. "We're sorry to bother you, Mr. Jones. I assure you that this is a relatively urgent matter in regard to-"

"Aiden, get out of my way," Carson butts in.

Aiden shoves him back. "Let me handle this. You've done enough."

"Guys," I hear Axel say.

Carson doesn't stop. "What the hell is that supposed to mean? She saw you too you know."

"Could you not fight right now?" Axel tries again.

"Stay out of this," they both yell at him.

Axel looks shocked and then he narrows his eyes. "No, you two shut up."

We all flinch.

Axel takes a step forward. "You've both been running around like idiots, trying to prove this and start that. Just shut up and get out of my way."

His brothers look shocked. My dad looks at me. I look at him. Carson and Aiden do as told.

Axel steps forward and sighs, running his fingers through his hair. "Geez, I'm really sorry Mr. Jones. We just have a really important project in school and Carson here messed up his part. We just need to talk to Mia about what we can do from here, if it's not too much trouble."

My dad closes the door in his face.

My eyes widen.

He looks at me. "Is that true Mia? Or are those kids causing you trouble? I'll kill them."

I consider my next words very carefully. With my family's lives in jeopardy, I doubt it's a good idea to get my Dad to go crazy on their butts. I try to go with the flow of what Axel set up and see where it goes from here. "It's... true," I say slowly.

My dad narrows his eyes. "Well then why didn't they just text you or something? What are we, in the stone ages?"

"We forgot to exchange contacts." I try not to cry about my phone. It's not the time to mention that part. RIP my cellular-baby.

My dad raises an eyebrow. "But they know where you live?"

I have no answer to that. We do a staring contest.

I hear a knock on the door and then it stops abruptly. "Stop it," I hear someone growl outside.

I keep staring at my father. He stares back at me.

"Just leave it honey," my mother says.

Dad stammers, looking at her. "What? I've just about caught her red handed."

Mom sighs. "This is not a lawsuit." She turns to me. "Are you sure you're safe? These boys aren't causing you any trouble?"

"I know what I saw."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Carson lies right to my face without even batting an eye.

I roll my eyes. "You changed right on top of me. There's no way I missed it."

He crosses his arms. "Yes you did."

I smack my forehead. This is ridiculous. "No, I didn't. You can't just convince me that I didn't see something when you're basically admitting it."

He doesn't have anything to say to that.

I cross my arms and look at him from the corner of my eyes. "It's called shifting, right? When you... turn."

He nods. "Yeah..."

I hm and look at the other two silent figures, then back at him. "I know. I read the fics..."

They look at me. Then at each other.

Axel and Carson chuckle a bit, just slightly. "See, we didn't even need to come explain this," Axel says.

Aiden gives him a look and his face falls.

I stick my hand in my back pocket. The one that has the pepper spray. "So what, you're here to shut me up? Kill me? Eat my family?"
