Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 55

I look over him. "The jacket maybe. It's such a flashy color." Red.

He smirks. "I'm a flashy person," he laughs. He leans down suddenly.

He tries to kiss me!

I move to the side. "Carson."

"What?"

"I'm not ready for that."

He looks even more confused. "But you're my imprint."

I should've seen this coming from a mile away. "I get that, but still. I need time, if it's ever going to go there in the first place."

He furrows his brow. "Time for what? You're my imprint. My mate."

I knew he'd toss that word around as an excuse to start pressuring me. I look him in the eyes. "You were the one who said we barely know each other."

"No. I said we needed to get to know each other."

"Okay then. Well let's do that first."

He nods. "Great. This is us getting to know each other. We fought, now we kiss and makeup." He leans in again.

I lean away. "Carson." I have no choice but to use the words. "Back the hell up."

He stops, albeit reluctantly.

I give him a pointed look.

"Okay, okay. Fine." He moves away.

I sigh, relieved. Something actually worked with him.

"But can I have a hug at least?"

I nearly smack my forehead. "No."

"Why?"

"Because I don't trust you."

"Oh come on," he scoffs. "You're killing me here. I'll keep my hands this high." He demonstrates by raising them to the level of my mid back. "And I'm way too tall to try any sneak attacks. Please."

"..."

He sighs. "You said you read werewolf romance novels. Some of them are pretty accurate. You should know how I feel right now. How bad I want you."

My eyes fly open. I move, abruptly. Time to get away.

He puts his hands up in defense. "Not in that way. I'm not a horndog."

"You're really just going to stand there?" I ask.

"I think I've done enough in this relationship, wouldn't you agree? I'd really like an egalitarian situation. A little give and take." He flashes a cocky as hell smile. I see his canines, or rather, I notice them for the first time.

"Shut up." I take a step closer. I go to give him a side hug for half a second. I wait a moment, and to my surprise, he doesn't do anything. I pull away.

He immediately engulfs me in a full embrace. He wraps his arms around me, tightly. Not to the point where it's hard for me to breathe, but to the point where I know he has no intention of letting me go. He nudges my head to the side with his own and breathes against my neck.

I stiffen. I'm about to tell him to let go, but I notice he's not really trying anything. His hands aren't wandering. He's not trying to kiss me or touch me inappropriately. He's just holding me.

I slowly hug him back. He gives a noise of approval that comes deep from his chest. A shiver runs down my spine.

"We should have talks more often," he whispers against my neck.

I give him a dirty look. "Shut up. You have like a second to let go before I attack you."

"You first," he grins.

At that moment, Aiden walks in (or should I say out) on us. For the first time since I've met him, I can genuinely say he looks... shocked. But still as cold as ever.

I pull away from Carson. He tries to pull me back to him. I tell him to stop and I push his hands away. He reluctantly lets go, muttering, "I don't know why you're acting like this all of a sudden."

He has no shame.

Aiden doesn't say anything. He just stares at me. I feel like I've been caught cheating, and I don't know why considering I'm just an imprint. The silence never ends.
