Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 57

She looks at him, his eyes glaring at the universe and his pencil lazily gripped in his hand. His relatively untouched notebook. His eyes. Can wolves get sick?

Her eyes narrow and she raises her voice. "I'm sorry, Alpha. Is my class too boring for you today?"

He doesn't react. Doesn't move. Doesn't spare her a glance.

Maybe he doesn't hear her? "Aiden," I try. "She's talking to you." I reach over to tap his arm.

He catches my hand midair, well before it touches him.

It lingers in the air for a moment, my hand. Suspended by his hand in a tight grip. I stare, my heart racing. His grip tightens, then weakens. Then tightens again.

His fingers brush over my skin, slowly. I look at his face and it's like he's not even there. He's in a trance. I see silver. It's zombified Carson all over again.

Aiden's eyes change color completely now, translucent like in his wolf form. He stares at my arm like he's never seen an arm before. Never touched an arm before, felt skin against his own.

"Aiden," I say quickly. Quietly as if I'm afraid to wake something up in him. As if it's not already. What is he trying to do, eat me?

He looks at me from the corner of his eyes. I make eye contact with him, and after a while, I see him again. He looks back at his hand like he doesn't know why he's holding me in the first place. He places my whole arm on the desk far away from him, but I don't miss how gently he does it. "Don't touch me." He looks back towards the front of the room.

I furrow my brow. "I was just-"

"Don't ever touch me," he growls.

Everyone in the room flinces. I'm no exception.

My mouth goes dry. I don't want to say anything else to him, but I don't want anyone to think they can talk to me like that and get away from it. I won't just sit here. "It's not like I wanted to. I was trying to help you out."

"I don't need your help," he mutters under his breath.

Silence falls over the room.

I can't take this. I look towards the teacher. "Can I move groups?"

The pencil in Aiden's hand snaps.

Everyone in the room pales. They all look towards him. I look towards him too. What the hell?

He brushes the debris to the side, my side may I add, and then sits there.

Aiden doesn't move. No one does. The room is as still as if it were frozen.

Eventually he allows two words to slip out of him, the hardest words I think he's ever said in his life by the way he's clenching his fists on the desk in front of him. "I can't..."

The teacher looks at me then back at him. She sighs, putting the dry erase marker down. "Come on class. Some fresh air might do this atmosphere some good. Let's go outside and find some things in nature that might kill us if we don't study properly."

Everyone gladly obliges, running from the room.

She turns to me. "Help him get to the nurse, and turn the lights off on your way out."

Before he or I can protest, her and half of the class are already out of the room.

Onai, Brittany, and Krys linger. The girls especially look apprehensive. Brittany says, "It's fine, Mia. We've got it. You can go." She looks behind me and pales, but doesn't change what she said.

I get up, but Ms. Baines' voice booms like Coach Kenet's, demanding them to follow. They give me an apologetic look before leaving.

Suddenly we're all alone.

I look back at him. He's staring off into space again. There are a million things going through my mind right now to say to him. More than half are a string of curse words. I just focus on the task at hand.
