Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 90

"The elders have been waiting. You expect them to wait even longer? What if they die before then?"

Onai glares at him. "Well then at least we didn't have the misfortune of watching them do it."

My mouth falls open. What a horrible thing to say. I turn to the old man. "We can see the elders first."

His wrinkly face glowers at me. "What? Do you want a gold star for offering to do the shit you came here to do?"

My mouth falls open. Onai gives me a look. Point taken.

"We'll be eating first," Onai says again. "Come on." He looks at me.

"Wait." Why are we eating? "We're almost done right? I'll eat dinner when I get home."

Onai doesn't even wait for me to finish. "We still have a few places to go before the day is done."

I cock my head back. "What could possibly be left?"

He gives me a look. "According to Axel's schedule, some hospitals are expecting us next."

My mouth can't even form the words. "Some hospitals? As in more than one?"

He nods. "You'll quickly learn that Axel is a slave driver."

I stare in horror.

He sighs, irritatedly. "I can't tell if that means you'd like some food or not. Just give an answer already."

"Yes please." I try not to cry. I just want to go home.

I follow his lead through a large room with groups of old people seeming to... be having the time of their lives? The place looks more like a resort than a nursing home. An old man with a simultaneously toned but wrinkly body walks past me in a speedo heading for the pool area.

I snap my head towards Onai. "Where are the dying people?"

He glares at me. "This is a nursing home, not a hospice. These people are only like 180."

I blink a few times. "As in 180 years old?"

He nods.

I blink again. "Years old?"

"Why do I have to keep repeating myself with you?"

I'm shook. "So if they're 180, how old are you? 120?" I smirk. That's what he gets for being so rude.

I rub my face. I can't take much more of this. "I'm... going to the bathroom." I get up.

He doesn't stop me. "Don't take too long. The elders are waiting. Apparently."

I think that was his version of a joke. I don't know if we're getting along or arguing, but whatever it is... Eh, It's alright. I head towards the hallway to the left of the cafeteria conveniently labelled "Bathroom." I open the first door to the left. I see urinals. I turn around and open the opposite door. Ah, there we go. I'm about to head inside when I feel someone put their hand over my mouth.

I try to scream.

But there's a fabric muffling me. I start elbowing instantly, but it's no use. They hold a horribly scented fabric against my nose and mouth. I struggle against them, kicking, twisting, but I can't get away. I can't even see who it is.

They're taller than me. Stronger than me. I'm using all my strength but nothing's happening. Maybe it's the old man come to kill Ms. Homo Sapien. Or the old walmart lady. Or a rogue. I start to feel numbness in my limbs. Lightheadedness.

SMACK

I fall to the ground, knocking my head against the wall in the process. Damn that hurt. I cough violently. A man falls beside me and another stands over him. I'm being saved? Onai?

I look up to see my knight in shining armor. It's the old cranky man.

"Who is that?" the old man asks, smacking the person again and again with the tray, even though they're already unconscious.

I look beside me and it's someone I don't recognize either. Onai rushes into the hallway. "What happened?" he looks over the scene. Then immediately he goes to attack the old man.
