His chest tightened again. "Name your price."

She didn't bother pretending to be polite. "Half of the Morales family's assets."

Luka nearly choked. "That's impossible."

Maeve spread her hands. "Then our negotiation ends here."

"Maeve—are you screwing with me?"

"If I'm bold enough to make that demand, I'm bold enough to stand behind what I say."

She dug in her bag and produced a small pill bottle. "This is one pill he left with me. Take it back and have Ansel swallow it."

"If Ansel isn't moved out of the ICU and into a regular room in seven days, you can treat everything I said today as nonsense."

Luka stared at her like she'd handed him poison. "You expect me to trust some random bottle? How do I know you didn't tamper with it?"
