Divorce Failed! My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 238

Andres shot his friend a warning glare. "Thanks for coming with me today. I'll treat you properly later. Maeve and I are heading out."

Even though "Whitty" sounded like something you'd name a small dog, coming from Maeve's mouth, Andres found himself accepting it happily.

Michael wasn't pleased. "Andres, you're seriously the type to use someone and toss them aside."

Andres didn't blink. "I didn't even plan on you coming."

He'd only just landed back in Aethelburg when Michael called to invite him out for a drink. Michael hadn't known Andres had been abroad.

Then he heard Maeve was in trouble—and immediately got anxious.

Maeve had helped him more than once. There was no way he could sit back and watch.

So he'd shown up with Andres at the interrogation room where Maeve was being held.

Technically, Andres didn't need Michael's help to bail her out, but he still filed the favor away.

Michael patted Andres on the shoulder, annoyed and amused at the same time. "You really forget your friends the second there's a woman involved. Fine—since you just got back and you two clearly want to run off and be disgustingly domestic, I won't interrupt."

Then he looked at Maeve. "You still owe me a thank-you for helping catch Lincoln White. When you're free, I'm buying you dinner."

Maeve was always flawless with social debts.

"If anyone should be treating, it's me," she said. "I really appreciate you making the trip because of my situation, Mr. Perez."

Michael hadn't expected her to be that tactful. His impression of her rose even higher.

"For Andres's sake, I wouldn't ignore your problem anyway."

Andres cleared his throat. "Alright. That's enough."

Michael knew when to stop. After a few more jokes, he took the hint and left.

On the way out, he couldn't help feeling a little sour.

He'd assumed Maeve was single like him.

He'd even wondered, if they met again, whether he should actually ask her out. It wasn't often a woman caught his eye, and Maeve definitely had.

He reached for her hand, holding it in his palm and giving it a gentle squeeze.

"If I'd known the Morales family would be this shameless, I would've arranged personal security for you before I left."

"I'm sorry. I didn't think it through."

Maeve had always seemed strong and independent to him. He'd never imagined a single video could shove her into the center of a storm.

His overseas trip had been rushed. Too many things went unplanned.

This one was on him.

Maeve suddenly said, "I thought you wouldn't be back for another week."

Andres answered, "When I heard you were in trouble, I wrapped up everything over there as fast as I could."

Maeve gave him a weary look. "If you'd managed the time difference right, I genuinely would've preferred you stayed overseas a few more days."
