Divorce Failed! My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 258

Warren Tanner hadn't earned his position as head butler of White Manor by being useless. He was someone Andres trusted.

Murray didn't waste a second. He found Tanner and relayed Maeve's warning.

Tanner quickly brought over seven or eight workers with tools and asked in a low voice, "Mr. White… should we dig now?"

Andres's eyes swept over the men. "Can they keep their mouths shut?"

Until he knew who had targeted his mother, the fewer people who knew, the better.

Tanner understood instantly. "They're solid. I already locked down word of it before bringing them over. Nothing will leak."

Andres nodded. "Do it. Keep the noise down."

At Tanner's order, the workers began digging at the spot Maeve had marked.

Maeve added, almost lazily, "Be careful not to damage the fountain's exterior."

She hadn't wanted to get involved.

But Sofia had once been close with her own mother decades ago, so Maeve decided to do a favor and let it count as goodwill.

Tanner studied the pretty young woman again.

To get Mr. White to obey her with just a few sentences—most people couldn't manage that kind of influence.

Less than twenty minutes later, one of the workers yelped. "Jesus—what is this?"

Andres and Murray looked into the pit.

After one glance, they both clamped hands over their mouths and noses.

A rancid stench hit like a wall. Inside the hole were several sets of bones.

Maeve didn't want to crush him, but she told the truth anyway. "It's a major factor."

"Can we fix it?" Andres looked like he wanted to tear the entire fountain down with his bare hands.

Maeve studied the layout. "The resentment from those animals being buried alive has already taken shape. To break the hex, you'll need a rite to settle the spirits."

Tanner asked carefully, "Is that something you can do, Miss Vance?"

Andres and Murray both looked at her, waiting.

Maeve rubbed her chin. "I can. But it's not free."

Even if Andres were more than a husband on paper—even if he were her parent or her child—this kind of work was always paid. No exceptions.

Andres understood the principle. "Fine. Whatever it costs, you'll get it."
