Divorce Failed! My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 283

Maeve, meanwhile, had zero interest in any gossip involving Andres.

After leaving White Manor, she met Naomi Lowell.

They chose a quiet spot—The Quiet Garden.

The moment Maeve sat down, she tossed a small black velvet pouch across the table. "Brought you candy."

Naomi caught it and gave it a skeptical squeeze. "I'm way past the age of eating candy. Next time bring chips—barbecue flavor."

She loosened the drawstring, reached inside, and prepared to pop a piece into her mouth.

Then she froze.

What she'd pulled out wasn't candy.

It was a diamond—so bright it could've burned her retinas.

Not one diamond either. A fistful.

The smallest looked to be at least three carats, and the larger ones were massive.

Naomi stared at Maeve. "You're calling diamonds candy? Where did you get these? Are they legal?"

Maeve slipped on her lab coat, then put on the protective glasses and mask she used for experiments. "Whitty brought them back from South Africa. A whole box. I picked some for you."

It took Naomi a beat to process who "Whitty" was supposed to be.

Right—Mr. Andres White, the famous Andres White of Aethelburg, reduced by his wife's best friend to a nickname that sounded like something you'd call a puppy.

A cute, dumb puppy.

Naomi poured the diamonds out and counted—six or seven dozen, all told.

"You're giving me this many? Isn't your husband going to be mad?"

Maeve was already focused on her data again, replying without looking up. "There are over a thousand more at home. I can't wear them all. Nobody can."

Naomi rolled her eyes. "Stop. You're going to give me a complex."

Still… Andres really did spend like a man who'd never heard the word "enough."

A thousand diamonds was obscene.

Naomi looked horrified. "Does Mr. White know you're analyzing his DNA?"

Maeve coughed lightly. "He doesn't need to know yet."

Even if he found out, it wouldn't matter. Andres hadn't wanted the marriage in the first place.

If he'd been indulging her endlessly, maybe it was because he'd accepted reality: if they were bound together and couldn't separate, it was better to adapt sooner than later.

Andres couldn't change the forced bond between them.

Maeve, however, didn't believe in that kind of destiny.

Griffin might be a master of formations and bindings, but every system had a flaw.

If she found the crack, The Binding would break sooner or later.

Soon the results came in.

Maeve stared at the data, a flicker of hope rising in her chest, then let out a sigh.

"Looks like ‘shave Whitty bald to avoid lightning' is off the table for now."
