Divorce Failed! My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 308

"Whitty," she said, "if Anya brings Natalia to you, I suggest you play along. Let them think you're buying it. Play it out with them to the end."

She glanced at him. "Sometimes the final act gives you more than you expected."

"If Landon's motivation were only jealousy, he wouldn't go this far."

"The way he hates you—there's something else underneath it."

Andres agreed. He wanted to dig deeper too, to find out whether Landon's obsession with undermining him was really as simple as envy.

After everything that had happened lately, Andres thanked her—genuinely.

"Maeve. Thank you. You've worked so hard to help me."

Maeve waved it off. "Don't mention it."

They'd slept together. That had to count for something. When she could help, she wasn't going to stand aside.

The "murder case" Maeve had engineered—clean, believable, perfectly timed—earned her several days off without suspicion.

During that time, Renfield Yates issued a formal apology on behalf of the university. He admitted he shouldn't have fired her in the heat of the moment.

Maeve, he announced, was one of Aethelburg University's finest students—also a brave young woman who'd acted to protect others.

Having a student like her was the university's good fortune.

Whether Renfield meant a word of it didn't matter.

If he wanted Orca Group not to pull funding, he had to swallow his pride.

And once he'd lowered his head, Maeve finally offered him a way to save face.

On Monday, she returned to campus on time.

Several groups of students saw her and greeted her first.

Mateo Fulton walked up with a grin. "I thought you'd decided you were done with classes forever. You finally remember you've got a bunch of old classmates who worry about you?"

"But from what I can see, he and Naomi are solid."

"As for whether she'll become my sister-in-law… that depends on where life takes them."

He sounded uncertain even to himself.

Mateo knew Maeve and Naomi were close. When his brother had been poisoned, Maeve probably wouldn't have helped if it weren't for Naomi.

But the Fultons were complicated—especially his brother. Too much of it was tied up in family secrets he couldn't explain to Maeve.

Maeve caught the hesitation in his eyes and patted his shoulder lightly.

"I'm just giving you a heads-up. If your brother marries someone else one day, I'll tell Naomi to walk away before it destroys her."

Maeve's best friend was not going to be used and discarded.

Not even by Declan Fulton—no matter what he'd done for Maeve in the past.
