After she and Andres left campus yesterday, Maeve hadn't really paid attention to what happened next.
Daisy nodded.
"Your family's legal team was going to sue her for spreading malicious rumors. Leah was terrified."
"Her dad got her excused from school, claiming she wasn't well, and promised that once she recovered, he'd come forward and handle the whole thing."
"And Mr. Yates didn't dare offend either side. He kept pleading with everyone, and the situation just… got pushed aside for now."
The outcome was exactly what Maeve had expected.
In yesterday's fight, Leah was the one who'd come out worse.
The lawyers Andres had shown up with were there to scare her, nothing more. In reality, they couldn't do much to Leah at all.
After Daisy finished filling her in, she seemed to remember the real reason she'd come.
She rummaged through her bag, pulled out a black plastic bag, and offered it to Maeve with both hands.
"This is a thank-you gift. I hope you won't think it's lame."
Maeve took it and opened it right in front of her.
Inside was… a bunch of weeds.
No—literally. Just weeds.
And yet Maeve's eyes lit up instantly.
She sifted through them, one by one. Every single plant in that bag had serious medicinal value—rare, the kind you didn't just stumble across.
Maeve looked up at Daisy. "Where did you get these?"
"My dad grows them," Daisy said.
Maeve's brows lifted. "Do you have any idea what these are worth?"
Daisy shook her head, then quickly nodded again. "My dad said some of them are basically priceless."
Maeve was finding Daisy stranger by the minute.
"If your dad can grow herbs that rare, why are you on financial aid at Aethelburg University?"
Maeve smiled and nodded. "Sure."
Daisy looked thrilled. "I'll bring them tomorrow!"
Maeve tilted her head. "What year are you? And what department?"
"Freshman. Pre-med," Daisy said.
Maeve gave her an extra look. "You're pre-med?"
Daisy nodded obediently. "My life goal is to become a forensic pathologist. I want to do autopsies."
Maeve lifted a thumb. "A noble ambition. Respect."
The first class had just ended when Mateo Fulton dropped into the seat beside Maeve.
"The smart-tech competition is coming up fast," he said. "How's your prep going?"
Maeve answered with blunt honesty. "If you hadn't brought it up, I'd have almost forgotten it existed."
Mateo stared at her. "So… are you still competing?"
