Divorce Failed! My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 67

Andres let her keep fanning the flames. He wanted to see how far she thought she could push him.

"You like jewelry?" he asked.

Maeve nodded solemnly, like she was swearing in court. "Not only do I like it. I like it a lot."

"You want it?"

"I do."

Andres pretended to think. "Problem is, I already gave the companion spot to Anya."

Maeve arched a brow. "Didn't someone say last night that a woman like that isn't worth your emotions? So what is this now, competing with trash for attention?"

He expected her to explode.

Instead, she put on a thoughtful expression, as if truly weighing his point.

"I think you're absolutely right, honey. A person should keep their word. Going back on it is a bad look."

She patted his cheek twice, light, almost affectionate, and somehow insulting at the same time.

"So if you don't take Anya aboard tomorrow," Maeve said pleasantly, "I'll look down on you for the rest of your life."

Andres lifted his brows. "That supposed to be a threat?"

"It's a fact."

"I thought you'd fight for it."

"I did."

"Not hard enough."

Maeve lifted Lucifer off her arm and lobbed him at Andres, smiling like she'd just won a stupid little game.

"Not hard enough is the point," she said. "Because I never meant a word of it in the first place."

Andres had just managed to catch Lucifer when the phone on the table started buzzing.

He glanced at the number and swallowed his irritation. Whatever game Maeve was playing could wait.

They'd agreed to meet at a quiet café.

Jasper Jett didn't waste time. "I'm here on behalf of Miss Vance to discuss the property transfer, Mr. Morales. These are the relevant terms and documents. If you find everything in order, you can sign here."

He slid the contract across the table, then placed a pen neatly beside it.

Luka skimmed the paper. With his years of experience, he could tell the clauses were clean, no obvious traps.

Still, he didn't sign right away. He looked past the contract to Maeve, who sat there idly twirling a pen like the meeting bored her.

"Maeve," Luka said, forcing warmth into his voice, "this isn't right. We're family. If you have something to say, you could've said it privately. Hiring a lawyer—doesn't that make things awkward? It's just a house. Do you really think I'd cheat you out of it?"

Maeve kept spinning the pen. She didn't even bother giving him a glance.

Jasper Jett smiled and took the opening. "People fall out over money every day, Mr. Morales. Putting this in writing protects both you and your daughter."

"This property has substantial value. My client is young, not trained in these matters. Without professional oversight, if she suffers a loss, no one looks good."

He nudged the pen closer to Luka. "If the goal is to avoid future disputes, handling it through counsel is the best approach."
