Thinking of the situation Maeve had been put in, Andres felt a heavy surge of guilt.
"I'm sorry. I should have told you before I went to meet her."
He knew further explanations would just sound like excuses.
The fact that Maeve was calmly discussing this with him showed an incredible amount of grace.
Any other wife, discovering her husband was secretly meeting another woman...
And finding her calls blocked when she tried to confront him, would have exploded in rage.
Maeve always claimed she had a bad temper.
But when it came to things that truly mattered, she was surprisingly level-headed.
She was never one to drag out an argument unnecessarily.
"Since you came clean, we'll let it go."
It was late by the time they returned to Azure Bay.
As they prepared for bed, Andres finally voiced the question that had been haunting him.
"You're systematically tearing down the Grover family. Can I ask why?"
He expected her to dodge the question like always, but this time, she answered.
"Nancy Grover stole something extremely important. I have to get it back."
"To be precise, it didn't belong to me. It belonged to Charlie Wilson, but it means just as much to me."
This was the first time Maeve had mentioned Charlie to Andres.
The name felt both foreign and strangely familiar.
"The man carrying you on his back in that photo... was that Charlie?"
In the darkness, Maeve gave a soft hum of confirmation.
Knowing he was torturing himself, Andres asked anyway.
"Where is he now?"
The air in the room grew heavy and stagnant before she finally replied.
"There was an accident. I have him hidden at The Quiet Garden for now."
