"Have I ever meant anything to you at all?" Andres demanded, his voice sharp with pain.
Maeve shoved him aside. "I don't have time for stupid questions."
She raised the blade, ready to bring it down on Nancy, but Andres locked onto her wrist again.
"If she absolutely has to die today, then I'll be the one killing her," he stated.
Even though he was suffocating with frustration, he refused to watch Maeve destroy her own life for the sake of revenge.
Nancy's eyes practically bulged out of her skull. "Andres, have you lost your mind?!"
She had thought Andres was her impenetrable fortress, but the reality was a brutal slap in the face. For Maeve, he was willing to cross his own moral boundaries and commit murder. Just how deeply did this man love her? Had he forgotten every single memory they ever shared?
Maeve was genuinely stunned by his offer. In that brief moment of distraction, Andres snatched the combat knife from her hand.
If Maeve demanded Nancy's death, he would grant her wish himself.
"No!" Nancy screamed in absolute terror.
Right at the precipice of death, a dark blur surged into the banquet hall with lightning speed.
Just as Andres brought the blade down toward Nancy's heart, a powerful hand clamped onto his arm.
"She doesn't die today," a deep, magnetic voice commanded.
Andres tried to stop her, but he was too late. Maeve's speed was terrifying. Judging by the sheer force behind the blade, she genuinely wanted his master dead. What kind of blood feud drove her to such extremes?
In the chaos, Andres vaguely heard Jasper and Naomi shout a name in unison, but the sound was drowned out.
Maeve and the man in black were already locked in high-speed combat. Both were apex fighters, their brutal moves mirroring each other perfectly.
Andres moved to intervene, but the man anticipated him. "Stay out of this. The little brat is acting out and needs a physical lesson."
Maeve ground her teeth, screaming as she threw another flurry of strikes. "You ruined my plan! I'll tear you apart!"
She raised the knife, but the man easily kicked it out of her hand. "I leave you alone for a little while, and your blade work turns into garbage."
