**Chapter 11: Racing and Surprises**
As soon as Halle posed her question, she emitted a low grunt before abruptly ending the call.
Ayla, taken aback by her friend’s reaction, raised an eyebrow. “Who was it?” she inquired, curiosity bubbling to the surface.
“He didn’t say,” Halle replied, her expression a mix of confusion and annoyance. “Just that he wants to meet me in person.”
Ayla’s mind raced, pondering the implications. “What on earth? Is he trying to show off? Not even willing to share his senior name?”
“Maybe he wants to surprise you,” Ayla suggested, trying to inject a hint of optimism into the conversation.
“Fine, I’ll take it that way,” Halle replied, crossing her arms defensively. “But I really hope this senior is Ayla 2.0. Now that would be a real surprise. If not, then he’s just pretending to be someone important.”
Ayla was at a loss for words, unsure how to comfort her friend.
With a sigh, Halle restarted the car engine and reminded her, “Don’t forget our plans for Saturday.”
Ayla’s gaze drifted to the steering wheel, and an unexpected thrill coursed through her fingers. It had been ages since she’d experienced the adrenaline of a race.
In the days that followed, Ayla found herself reaching out to Emmett daily, her concern for Kaleb’s health growing with each conversation.
From what Emmett shared, it was clear that Kaleb was a relentless workaholic.
Despite his recent illness, the moment their company secured a significant investment, he dove headfirst back into work as if nothing had ever happened.
Ayla couldn’t shake the worry that he might collapse under the weight of his own ambition. She contemplated calling him directly, but the reality was that Kaleb had blocked her number.
Though she could easily bypass that barrier with her hacking skills, she knew it would only exacerbate the already fragile state of their sibling relationship.
So, she decided to let it go for the time being.
Instead, she resolved to visit him in person when her schedule allowed.
Saturday arrived, and Ayla was buzzing with excitement for the car race she and Halle had planned to attend together. She prepared herself, eager to immerse in the thrill of the event.
Halle had promised to pick her up, but a last-minute issue arose, leaving Ayla with no choice but to drive herself.
Before the divorce, she had often borrowed one of Troy’s cars. But just yesterday, she had finally treated herself to a gleaming white Range Rover.
The map indicated that the journey would take an hour and a half.
Yet, with her exceptional driving skills and a determination to adhere to the speed limits, she managed to arrive in just one hour.
As she approached the venue, the atmosphere was electric. The parking lot was already bustling with people, their excitement palpable as they gathered to witness the spectacle.
Ayla stepped out of her vehicle, her heart racing in anticipation of the day ahead. She could see the grandstands filling up, the energy of the crowd buzzing like a live wire.
She wandered through the throngs of fans, her senses heightened by the sounds of laughter and chatter around her.
But now, with the weight of divorce behind her, she had released Troy from her heart, no longer clinging to expectations.
If she didn’t care, then perhaps the pain wouldn’t cut so deeply.
Yet, despite her newfound resilience, it still hurt. The only silver lining was that Ayla had learned to swallow that pain quickly, allowing herself to move forward.
Zane, on the other hand, radiated excitement at having Troy’s attention. For someone like Zane, who aspired to climb the ranks in the industry, this was a golden opportunity. “Skyla’s about to race, Troy. You can watch from here. I picked this room myself—the view is the best.”
That explained everything. For years, Troy had shown no interest in racing, and Ayla had often wondered why he even bothered to come.
Now it all made sense.
She hadn’t anticipated Skyla would be racing today.
Troy responded with calm assurance, “Alright. I just need to make a quick call.”
Halle’s room was further down the hall, and Ayla planned to wait until Troy and Zane closed their door before making her way there.
It was the perfect plan—no one would see her.
But just as she was about to execute her escape, the sound of a door creaking open froze her in her tracks. Troy was stepping out to make his call.
With only one hallway available, Ayla had no choice but to quickly retreat, her heart pounding as she tried to remain unseen.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
